We wrapped up our Faith on Film series yesterday with a screening of Tokyo Story, a cinematic masterpiece directed by Yasujiro Ozu.

During the lively post screening discussion, Louisville Zen Center’s Sensei Jissai Prince-Cherry presented the foundational concepts of Buddhism captured in this film including impermanence, dissatisfaction/suffering, and the changing self.

Special thanks to the Speed Cinema for partnering with us to explore the faith traditions that we celebrate in film &
in our communities.

Ambassador Thomas Graham Jr.
The Center for Interfaith Relations grieves the passing of longtime board member, Ambassador Thomas Graham Jr. Having served six American Presidents as an arms control negotiator, the NYTimes reported, “Mr. Graham dedicated his life’s work to eliminating, or at least lessening, the overwhelming threat of nuclear annihilation that hung over the globe for decades.”

Before joining the army and pursuing an international education, Mr. Graham attended Louisville Male High School. Again, the NYTimes quoted his oral history, reflecting on growing up with “notions that you were supposed to make something of yourself and do something with your life and contribute to the community.”

Whether through his devotion to Thomas Merton or his personal values, Mr. Graham certainly contributed much to our country by way of peace promotion. We give thanks for his leadership and investment in the importance of interfaith cooperation.
