Statement from Catholic Climate Covenant about the wildfires and smoke in North America this summer:

As many of our skies are being blanketed in smoke from the Canadian wildfires, let us be reminded that the health of our planet and the health of our communities are inseparable. Poor air quality is a justice issue, and the effects of climate change are hurting the most vulnerable first and worst.

We pray for all those affected by these fires, especially those who have lost their homes, those working to contain the fires, and those breathing unhealthy air. May this moment, and the increasing frequency of smoke-filled skies, deepen our commitment to care for our common home and one another.

Today is World Refugee Day

We are all icons of God. We all have the ‘imago dei’, the Image of God, within us. For Jesus too was a refugee. For all Refugees, Lord Have Mercy.
