Kentucky Hemophilia Foundation

Kentucky Hemophilia Foundation KHF’s assists persons with hemophilia and similar bleeding disorders through education, advocacy, and support services.

KHF facilitates empowerment and self-advocacy; provides information/referrals, seminars, and summer camp for children and teens. A person with hemophilia or a related inherited bleeding disorder must be careful about minor injuries the rest of us hardly notice. Children and their parents must remain constantly vigilant. Many activities, like riding a bicycle, must be approached with caution. There

are other persistent challenges associated with inherited bleeding disorders. Treatment, which involves the infusion of the missing clotting factors into the bloodstream, is extremely expensive. Because the condition is lifelong and, as yet, incurable, treatment may never be stopped. In addition, degenerative orthopedic problems often develop as the result of repeated bleeding in the joints. Viral infections, such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, have been contracted in the past from contaminated blood products. In fact, HIV/AIDS has been the single, most frequently fatal, health complication for individuals with hemophilia.

April 17 – World Hemophilia Day ❤️

Kentucky Hemophilia Foundation honors and pays tribute to all men, women, and children living with hemophilia, vWD, and similar bleeding disorders!

World Hemophilia Day is an important commemoration to raise awareness about hemophilia and other inheritable bleeding disorders. It is observed every year on April 17 to convey the need for proper and timely diagnosis and access to care.
By promoting knowledge and understanding, we can help improve the quality of life for all people living with these bleeding disorders and facilitate a better future.

KHF’s assists persons with hemophilia and similar bleeding disorders through education, advocacy, and support services. KHF facilitates empowerment and self-advocacy; provides information/referrals, seminars, and summer camp for children and teens.

As the month of March is drawing to a close, I want to remind everyone that bleeding disorder awareness is important every month and every day of the year for our community members, caregivers, healthcare providers, and other caring and concerned individuals. However, in March our bleeding disorders community is especially recognized and acknowledged by our legislators who work to ensure access to care and available and affordable treatment. We are honored on behalf of our bleeding disorders community to have received this proclamation signed by Governor Andy Beshear.
