Y-NOW Mentoring

Y-NOW Mentoring Amplify Change-one connection at a time! Be the change in a child's life, become a mentor! community service project, halfway house visit, lock-in, etc.).

Y-NOW is a youth mentoring program modeled on the Youth-At-Risk Methodology (YAR) and incorporates both positive youth development and trauma informed care best practices. Our programming includes volunteer training workshops, Youth/Mentor workshops and retreats/camps, facilitator training, youth empowerment and leadership training, alumni gatherings/reunions, etc. During each 10-month class, we w

ork with up to 30 youth in both a 1-on-1 and group mentoring capacity, while also implementing curriculum-based life skills. Youth and mentors come together 2x/month to talk about their Incarcerated Parent, and participate in various life skills curriculum and special events (e.g. Each class kicks off with a workshop or camp/retreat and concludes with a graduation celebration. Alumni are then encouraged to participate as youth leaders, supporting the next class, and/or attend reunions. In 2012, we began a pilot program working with elementary aged youth (3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) who have a parent incarcerated. Thus far, we have worked with 35+ children in the pilot program, and will be working closely with more elementary schools through YMCA Safe Place Services Opportunity Program.
