Yesterday here at Unity of Louisville, Rev. Dr. Gerry Boylan shared a message about finding joy even as we move through sorrow. Janet and Lisa Essenpreis filled the room with beautiful special music, and we celebrated the women who attended last weekend’s Women’s Retreat. It was a joyful Sunday filled with music and community. We’d love to have you join us next Sunday. There’s always a place for you here!

This past Sunday, we had the joy of hearing Elsa Hargis perform her final special music with us before heading off to California Institute of the Arts for college. She shared an original song she wrote called “California,” with instrumental help from her brother, Locke Hargis, who you can see playing guitar alongside her in the video.
Elsa has become such a special part of our Unity family. From sharing her incredible voice as one of our regular special music performers to helping lead our opening songs with the music team, she has brought so much talent and joy to our Sunday mornings! We are going to miss her so much, but we could not be more excited to watch where this next chapter takes her. We wish you all the best as you begin your college journey, Elsa! We’re sending you so much love and light as you continue growing into the incredible artist you already are! California is lucky to have you.

This weekend, the women of Unity of Louisville gathered at Agape Wilderness Retreat Center for the Women’s Retreat: Our Soul’s Journey Home and enjoyed a time of reflection, laughter, and spiritual growth. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special weekend possible. May the connections and inspiration we shared continue long after the retreat ends!

Our friends at Highlands Community Ministries are asking for help filling the shelves of their Food Pantry.

Food insecurity is at an all-time high with 1 in 6 people and 1 in 5 children experiencing food insecurity. At the same time, food supplies are becoming increasingly limited.

Right now, the Food Pantry’s greatest need is shelf-stable protein, including:
• Canned chicken and tuna
• Soups and chili with meat
• Canned pasta sauce with meat
• Other shelf-stable proteins

They are also in need of cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, granola bars, jelly, cooking oil, flour, sugar, coffee, tea and more.

When donating, please consider what you would want to feed your own family. Pop-top cans and smaller-sized items are especially helpful for neighbors who may not have regular kitchen access or who rely on public transportation.

Food donations can be dropped off Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at:

Highlands Community Ministries/Unity
1228 E. Breckinridge St.
Louisville, KY 40204

Can’t make those hours? Email Tiffany Murphy at [email protected] to arrange another time or schedule a pickup.

Every donation helps a neighbor who needs it. As part of the Highlands Community Ministries community, Unity of Louisville is proud to support this important work. Please help us fill the shelves.

This past Sunday, Rev. Dr. Bobby Kyser shared a different way of looking at the detours in our lives through this acronym:

D — Discover
What might be here for me to discover?

E — Embrace
Embrace the moment you’re in. It’s there for you.

T — Trust
Trust that God is in all things.

O — Open
Be open. There may be another way that creates a new opportunity.

U — Understand
What is developing in me? What shift is happening because of this detour or road closure?

R — Remember
God always travels with me. I’m never alone.

From Detour to Discovery continues this Sunday with Part 2: Love Is More Contagious Than Fear.

Yesterday, Jared Ramirez joined us as our special music guest and brought all of us into the song with a call and response during “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer. A great reminder to keep your head up and keep moving forward, it will all turn out fine!
