The Table of Plenty Community Restaurant

We are dedicated in helping to feed our neighbors and promote community in the Portland neighborhood and the surrounding Louisville area. Our goal, inspired by the passions of St. Francis and the Good Shepherd, is to provide nutritious food, a welcoming environment, and service with a smile.

The Table of Plenty came together in November of 2010, after a group of parishioners from the newly formed Good Shepherd Parish got together to discuss how we would fulfill a goal of having a Social Outreach Committee within the first year of our beginnings. After prayerful discernment and discussion, it was decided that we would try and fill a need in our home community of Portland. We wanted to start a soup kitchen. Not only did we want to help feed our neighbors, we also wanted to empower a sense of community with our neighbors and make sure that they dine in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We thought: to accomplish this, we need something more than just a soup kitchen, we need to open a restaurant. Our restaurant, not soup kitchen, has a maître d' at the door, welcoming our guests and seating them at a table. Our restaurant has severs who greet our guests and take their food order from a menu that our chefs have prepared, and then deliver the order to the table. Drinks and desserts included! The only difference between our restaurant and others in the city, is that our guests don’t receive a check at the end of their meal.
