🖤✊🏾 Black History Is American History — 365 Days a Year
Today, we honor a powerful milestone: 100 years of Black History celebrations (1926–2026). What began in 1926 as “Negro History Week,” founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, has grown into the month-long observance we now know as Black History Month — a national call to remember, uplift, and teach the stories that shaped America.
But let’s be clear:
Black history cannot be contained to one month.
It lives in every chapter of this nation’s story — in its culture, its progress, its resilience, and its ongoing pursuit of justice.
As we mark a century of intentional celebration, the NAACP Louisville Branch reaffirms that:
• Black history is American history.
• Black excellence is American excellence.
• Black contributions are foundational, not optional.
• And our stories deserve recognition every single day of the year.
This centennial year is not just a commemoration — it’s a reminder of our responsibility to continue learning, teaching, advocating, and honoring the legacy of those who paved the way.
Join us in celebrating 365 days of Black brilliance, Black resilience, and Black leadership — past, present, and future.
