We are excited to share that Harleigh Beumer has been named the first-ever recipient of the Peterson Innovation Award from Student Ally, and the honor comes with a $10,000 scholarship.

Student Ally, a safety and compliance platform used by colleges nationwide, is now building Harleigh's idea directly into its app. The addition will let students attach a confidential note about a disability or mental health need to their emergency alerts, so campus security has the context to respond appropriately. It's expected to impact tens of thousands of students at launch alone.

Spalding students like Harleigh who lead with compassion and thoughtfulness continue to make the world a better place. Congratulations, Harleigh! We are so proud of you!

The Sena Jeter Naslund-Karen Mann Graduate School of Writing at Spalding University has selected Rekdal's acclaimed poetry collection, West: A Translation, for this distinguished honor.

Written to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad, West: A Translation shines a light on the experiences of the thousands of Chinese laborers who helped build the railroad, while also exploring the legacy of the Chinese Exclusion Act and the treatment of immigrants at Angel Island.

"West features documentary, persona, and lyric poems that commemorate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the U.S.'s transcontinental railroad," said Kathleen Driskell, chair of the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing. "It also includes poems and essays focusing on the mistreatment of Chinese trying to immigrate through Angel Island to the United States, a timely subject for all Americans."

Join us as we celebrate Rekdal and her remarkable work at a public presentation and award ceremony:

Last weeks move-in brought the energy, the smiles, and the excitement of a brand-new year as we welcomed our first-time students and returning students back to campus. There is nothing like seeing our halls fill up again and feeling the joy of everyone coming together to kick off the semester.

We also loved hosting our welcome dinner, where students got to enjoy new gourmet dining options along with some delicious favorites - including our secret recipe baked goods that definitely stole the show.

To top it all off, a special guest stopped by campus to share a warm greeting with so many members of the Spalding Community.

It was a fun, memorable start to the year, and we can't wait to see all that this semester brings. Let's go, Spalding!

As we prepare for another exciting academic year, Spalding University was proud to welcome our newest faculty members to campus for New Faculty Orientation.

This special day provided an opportunity for our new colleagues to connect with one another, learn more about our mission and values, and begin building relationships that will enrich the lives of our students and strengthen our campus community. From meaningful discussions about teaching and learning to conversations about service, leadership, and student success, the day was filled with enthusiasm, purpose, and a shared commitment to education.

At Spalding, we believe that education is transformative. Our faculty are at the heart of that transformation, inspiring students to think critically, serve compassionately, and pursue lives of meaning and purpose. Every new faculty member brings unique experiences, expertise, perspectives, and passions that will help shape the future of our university and empower the next generation of leaders, professionals, artists, healthcare providers, educators, and changemakers.

As members of a learning community rooted in the values of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, our newest faculty join a tradition that emphasizes service, compassion, social justice, and academic excellence. Their work will not only expand knowledge in their disciplines but also help students discover their own potential and make a positive impact in their communities and professions.

We are grateful that these talented educators have chosen to make Spalding University their academic home. We look forward to the energy, innovation, mentorship, and scholarship they will bring to our classrooms, laboratories, studios, clinics, and campus spaces.

Please join us in offering a warm welcome to the newest members of our faculty. We are excited to begin this journey together and can't wait to see the difference they will make in the lives of our students and throughout the Spalding community.

Welcome to Spalding University. We are so glad you're here. 💙🎓
