The Flower Buds

The Flower Buds The Flower Buds began in September 2006. It involves making bouquets from donated flowers and delivering to Hospice patients, children’s homes, & others.

A kind note from one of our recipients …

I had to take the time to thank-you all for what you do. My mother stayed at Baptist East Hospital for a week and passed this past Wednesday morning. It was tough going there everyday but one morning I entered her room and there was this gorgeous bouquet of flowers! I honestly smiled and felt some peace every time I glanced at it. The next morning there were several bouquets at the nurses station and along stations in the hallway. So, if you ever think that what you are doing doesn't make a difference, you are oh so wrong. Thank you ever so much for bringing some cheer to an otherwise sad room/location. Hats off to you all! #

The arrangers were excited and went running to pick out flowers from the wedding flowers that were donated today. As you can see, they were beautiful and some varieties of flowers we don’t usually receive. If you know of someone that is having an event or wedding, please tell them about the Flower Buds. The bouquets go to Hosparus units at three hospitals, nursing homes, Hildegard House, and other ministry groups.

The Flower Buds celebrated February birthdays with some delicious treats and Mardi Gras with a delicious cinnamon King cake. Happy birthday to Jerry W, Jerry E, Don and Ruth. Hope you all have a happy and blessed year ahead. We were surprised to get so many flower donations after Valentine weekend. We had enough to fill all our vases with some buckets left to take to nursing homes.

We celebrated January birthdays a couple of weeks ago. Happy birthday to Clem and Stephanie. It was a milestone birthday for Clem. It was his 80th and he’s still going strong. Our flower donations are down because of Valentine’s Day. If you know of an event or wedding, please spread the word that the Flower Buds would love to repurpose the leftover flowers. 😊

With extreme cold, snow, and ice in the forecast for Louisville this weekend and into next week, our hearts are heavy for the women and children who rely on UP for safety and support.

UP is a vital daytime sanctuary but we are not an overnight shelter. And with local overnight shelters already at capacity, many of the mothers and children we serve have nowhere warm to go when our doors close.

Because these conditions are expected to be dangerous, we are making an urgent ask to help provide emergency hotel stays for our guests.

Every child deserves a warm bed. Every mother deserves peace of mind knowing her family is safe from the cold.

Providing overnight lodging is a significant undertaking, but our responsibility to protect the women and children in our care is even greater.

If you are able, please consider giving to help us keep families safe during this severe weather. If you’re unable to give, sharing this message helps more than you know.
