Today was cause for a super celebration. Happy 20th birthday to the Flower Buds! Mary Fletcher, formerly of Clifton, began spreading the joy of repurposing flowers and delivering vases from her home on Labor Day in 2006. After a couple of moves, we are now blessed to be operating out of the fellowship hall at Crescent Hill Baptist Church. Looking through the pictures from over the years, we were sad to remember some of the volunteers who have passed on, but their spirit is still with us. You couldn’t ask for a more amazing group of volunteers. We have formed a special bond, supporting each other through surgeries, falls, or tragic events in our lives. We are looking forward to many more happy Mondays spreading cheer throughout the community.

The Flower Buds was honored to be one of the recipients of the 2026 Spirit of Crescent Hill Awards. Mary Ann accepted the award at the Crescent Hill Community Council monthly meeting on September 3, 2026. Founded in 1998, by Crescent Hill resident and former Crescent Hill Community Council president, Richard Jett, the Spirit of Crescent Hill Award was created to honor outstanding acts of community spirit in the neighborhood. We were nominated by Joyce C., who is on the nominating committee. She saw the WAVE 3 segment covering our milestone 90,000 vases delivered on the news. Cheers to our dedicated volunteers!

Happy birthday to Mary Ann today! In addition to keeping things running smoothly at Flower Buds, she always comes up with fun ways to celebrate our milestones. Thank you for your leadership Mary Ann. Also celebrating birthdays this month are Judy, Barbara, Janet, and Kathy. We are in need of more flower donations. Please spread the word. We would love to have your leftover flowers from weddings, funerals, or other events. We will put them to good use!

We celebrated June birthdays today. Happy birthday to Diane, Sharon, Laura, Mary Jane, and Rose! Thank you to the bride who donated her beautiful wedding flowers, and Lorrie with L&M Detailed Events for facilitating the delivery to us. Thanks to Whitehall gardens for donating some of their fresh cut flowers. As always, thank you to the Kroger stores who generously donate flowers to us every week.

A kind note from one of our recipients …

I had to take the time to thank-you all for what you do. My mother stayed at Baptist East Hospital for a week and passed this past Wednesday morning. It was tough going there everyday but one morning I entered her room and there was this gorgeous bouquet of flowers! I honestly smiled and felt some peace every time I glanced at it. The next morning there were several bouquets at the nurses station and along stations in the hallway. So, if you ever think that what you are doing doesn't make a difference, you are oh so wrong. Thank you ever so much for bringing some cheer to an otherwise sad room/location. Hats off to you all! #
