On November 10, 1991, the legendary Tasha Kohl of the DFW Metroplex (Texas) made drag herstory when she was crowned the very FIRST National Entertainer of the Year at the Connection Complex and Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky. 💜👑💜
Following three nights of preliminary competition on November 7, 8, and 9, the grand finale took place on Sunday, November 10, with Tasha emerging victorious over 27 competitors from across the country…..
And what a victory it was!! 🏆🥇👑
Tasha SWEPT the competition, becoming the judges’ choice in ALL FOUR categories: Interview, Evening Wear, Talent and Presentation!! Her spectacular talent production, “Dream Sequence,” captivated the audience of more than 1,000 spectators, earning her a standing ovation. 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿
In addition to capturing the prestigious national crown, Tasha received what was reported as the largest prize in female impersonation pageant history at that time — $5,000 in cash and a brand-new 1992 Geo automobile!! 💰💵🚗
Charity Case of Kansas City, Missouri, was named First Runner-Up, while Leslie Rage of Baldwin, New York, captured Second Runner-Up honors, and making the evening even more special, Tasha’s dear friend and fellow Texas legend, Naomi Sims, served as one of the pageant’s emcees alongside Louisville’s Eddie Dee — in a beautiful moment between two legendary entertainers and dear friends, it was Naomi herself who placed the National Entertainer of the Year crown upon Tasha’s head!! 🌟💜💜🌟
