🚧 I-65 project to close section of Gray Street temporarily 🚧

On Monday, October 5, the section of Gray Street under I-65 is scheduled to close temporarily and reopen by late November. The closure will allow crews to continue bridge demolition and construction work in the area as the project progresses.

Sidewalk access on Muhammad Ali under I-65 is scheduled to close early October 5 and reopen by mid-October to safely accommodate demolition work in the area. See the detour map below.

As a reminder, Broadway at the I-65 overpass has reopened ahead of schedule. The section of Jacob Street under I-65 is now permanently closed as part of safety improvements following frequent crashes at the intersection.

After nearly five decades in downtown Louisville, Dr. Gary Vitale has seen LOUMED transform from what it was in 1979 into the growing medical and education district it is today.

In our new LOUMED Voices feature, Dr. Vitale shares his perspective on the district’s evolution, the transformation of LOUMED Commons and what makes the partnerships within LOUMED so important.

See LOUMED through Dr. Vitale’s eyes by reading the full story on our blog:

The Louisville Medical and Education District, known as LOUMED, is a 22-block, fully integrated district in the heart of downtown Louisville where healthcare, education, research, and economic vitality come together.

🚧 Broadway to Reopen Early Monday and Jacob Street to Close 🚧

Broadway under I-65 is scheduled to reopen early on Monday, Sept. 28.

When Broadway reopens, Jacob Street under I-65 will permanently close the same day. The closure is expected to improve the operation of the nearby off-ramp from northbound I-65 to Broadway, reducing conflicts and helping to prevent crashes.

As a reminder, Gray Street under I-65 is scheduled to close early Monday, Oct. 5 and reopen by late November. A signed detour will be in place.

Come join us for a Night Walk through LOUMED on October 1st!

Creating a safer, more welcoming district starts with listening to the people who experience it every day. That’s why LOUMED continues to partner with the Louisville Office for Women to gather community feedback and better understand how our streets, lighting, landscaping and public spaces can impact people’s sense of safety and belonging.

Earlier this year, our first Night Walk gave community members the opportunity to walk through LOUMED after dark and share what’s working and where there’s room for improvement. Now, we’re continuing the conversation with another Night Walk.

🚧 Overnight lane restrictions tomorrow and an update on Broadway temporary closure 🚧

⚠️ Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23 through Friday, Sept. 25, motorists driving to and from LOUMED during the overnight hours can expect lane restrictions on Brook Street. From 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. those days, Brook Street between College Street and Broadway will be reduced to one lane of traffic.

⚠️ From Sunday, Sept. 27 through Friday, Oct. 2, one lane will be closed on northbound I-65 between Broadway and Jacob Street. Access remains open to all downtown hospitals throughout.

⚠️ The section of Broadway at the I-65 overpass remains closed at this time, and is on schedule to reopen to traffic in early October. When Broadway reopens, the section of Jacob Street under I-65 will close permanently.

A big milestone for Jefferson Rising! Today, we celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of Jefferson Community & Technical College’s Jefferson Rising project. This phase brought three new additions to the downtown campus: the Center for Science and Discovery, a 500+ space parking garage and the Republic Bank Foundation College Green.

This transformational project is helping shape the future of downtown Louisville with a revitalized campus that will welcome residents and visitors as they enter the city from I-65 and serve as an anchor for the Louisville Medical & Education District.

We’re excited to see how this project will bring new energy and opportunity to our community! Interested to read more about what’s coming? Read more here: https://jefferson.kctcs.edu/rising-to-new-heights/explore-jefferson-rising.aspx
