The Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program is an ecumenical, faith-based year of service for young people (ages 19-30) in sites across the US and the world.

A year of service…

Young Adult Volunteers put their faith into action through a year of service in 22 sites around the United States and throughout the world. YAVs serve alongside local partners working to address the root causes of poverty, working for reconciliation in cultures of violence, and sharing the hope of Christ. YAVs (ages 19-30) grow and learn as part of an intentional Christian comm

unity, practice living simply, and work for meaningful change in the world. for a lifetime of change…

YAVs engage in discernment – the practice of deep listening – to find out who God is calling them to be. Through spiritual practices, relationships, and living in community, YAVs explore what a life of service can truly mean – not only for a year, but for their entire lives. Our Peru YAVs recently participated in their second retreat in Cajamarca, high in the Peruvian Andes! 🗻

A highlight of the trip was visiting one of the local volunteers, Nelvin Caruajulca, at his service site, a local evangelical church. Nelvin works with children from rural areas, providing essential reading and writing tutoring to help them succeed. He also helps prepare breakfast for these students, ensuring they receive the nutrition they need to thrive, especially since many do not have access to three full meals a day. 🫂

We are always inspired by the work our YAVs are doing! 👏
