Lopa Mehrotra said, “We are grateful to the leadership of past Project Directors Carolyn Gatz,
Christen Boone, and Ben Reno-Weber, and for the support of the city of Louisville for twenty
years of trust and belief that a Greater Louisville is possible. While we are saddened to bring an
end to this work, we are all proud that the GLP is going out on a high note, challenging Louisville
to fund support for civic issues in a collaborative and meaningful way.”

We couldn't have done the work without a supportive community like you. You have the data, what will you do with it?

While we may be sunsetting we are grateful to have all of you to continue to push things forward. The data will continue to live on the Greater Louisville Project website and we will share more resources as the week comes to a close.

Sunsets are proof that endings can be beautiful too.

As we prepare to sunset we want to take the time to thank everyone who has supported and helped build GLP into what it is today. We wouldn't be able to provide the community with change making data if it weren't for a lot of brilliant people and partners.

Travel back down memory lane with us this week and if you have worked on any projects with us let us know some of your favorite GLP memories in the comments and tag your team or partners.

Thanks to our friends at Omega Psi Phi for creating a space for student response to our Safer City By Design report during the 26th Annual Men of Quality Lifestyle Choices Forum. It was a great reminder that we need to include youth input when we are discussing youth violence. As our Chair Stephen Reily wrote, “We have data, but we do not have answers, and for that we look to our neighbors - including those who survive threats every day - to show us the way.”

We will go into more depth regarding this funding cliff throughout the rest of the week.

Investing to Address Connection

The CDC’s term for young people neither working nor in school is disconnected youth. Louisville’s rise in disconnected youth since 2019 is concentrated among Black youth, and Louisville now ranks worst among its peers in disconnection for Black youth.

"Violence occurs in the context of a broad range of human relationships & complex interaction that encompasses social, cultural, & economic risk factors. For these reasons, the most effective violence reduction initiatives address violence through a Public Health Lens, looking at the systemic factors that affect young people."
