Ohio could do better!

Ohio could do better!

In a rare moment of total unity, the Iowa Senate voted unanimously on April 30, 2026 to take a stronger stand against something most people can’t even bear to think about.

Animal torture.

Under the newly rewritten legislation, acts like burning, starving, poisoning, drowning, or intentionally causing prolonged pain to a dog or cat are no longer treated lightly.

They are now classified as a felony.

That means up to 5 years in prison and fines reaching over $10,000.

But what made this vote different… was the reason behind it.

Lawmakers pointed to research from the FBI and National Sheriffs’ Association, showing a disturbing pattern. People who commit extreme cruelty toward animals are far more likely to commit violent crimes against humans later in life.

In other words… this is not just about animals.

It is about preventing something worse.

Supporters called the behavior “heinous” and made it clear this law is about recognizing early warning signs before they escalate into tragedies no one can undo.

The bill also increases penalties for repeat offenders and strengthens protections for service dogs and victims of organized abuse like dog fighting.

It still needs final approval, but one thing is already clear.

The message has been sent.

Some actions are not mistakes.
They are choices… and they carry consequences.

And for countless animals who never had a voice… this could be the moment someone finally listened.

Come on Ohio, other states are doing more!😤

Come on Ohio, other states are doing more!😤

A new law signed on April 27, 2026, by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is already being called one of the strictest animal protection laws in the United States.

And for the first time… leaving a dog chained outside for hours will not just mean a warning or a small fine.

It could mean jail.

Under the new law, dogs cannot be tethered outside for more than 60 minutes within any 12-hour period. Overnight chaining is now completely banned, from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.. There are also strict weather protections. If temperatures drop below 32°F or rise above 90°F, tethering is illegal.

And if someone ignores it… the consequences are serious.

Violators can face up to one year in jail, fines of up to $1,000, and even lose ownership of their dog.

Officials say this change was necessary. Animal control and SPCA teams receive 25 to 30 calls every week about dogs left tied up for hours, sometimes days. Many are found without proper shelter, water, or human interaction.

What makes this law different is not just the limits. It is the message.

Animal cruelty does not always look extreme. Sometimes it is quiet. A dog tied to the same spot every day… slowly becoming invisible.

This law draws a clear line.

Because a dog was never meant to live at the end of a chain. Not in the heat. Not in the cold. Not alone.

And for some dogs out there tonight… this might be the moment their life finally changes.
