The Prisoner's Hope

The Prisoner's Hope At The Prisoners Hope, we are redefining reentry. Our belief is simply this – reentry is a process and not an event.

Because of that belief, we have created a multi-faceted approach to preparing a person for leaving prison and taking up a new life. Founded in 2013 as a 501(c)3 organization and Louisville-based, The Prisoners Hope is a Christ-centered ministry reaching out to those incarcerated and their families; serving needs before, during and after incarceration through mentoring and assistance with basic needs to equip for successful re-entry into society.

The Prisoner’s Hope
Spotlight story.

Although our organization doesn’t specialize in addiction recovery, we encounter it frequently. Families and individuals struggling with addiction contact us regularly. One of my strengths lies in establishing connections with partners across various forms of support, ensuring that when someone reaches out for help, I can seamlessly connect them with the right resources without having to end the call empty-handed. This ability to provide immediate assistance for broken lives always helps me to end my days better. James Sweasy is one such remarkable individual who has been a consistent source of support, and his comeback story serves as a testament to the power of God and resilience. Yesterday, we had the privilege of recognizing James with a golf sponsorship award, and reflecting on his journey is a reminder of its impact. Having overcome the challenges of addiction and what seemed to be endless incarcerations, James emerged as a successful business owner (Robert Alexander Center) and a leading expert in the addiction space, inspiring more individuals than you could count. What sets him apart, however, is his unwavering commitment to helping others. James consistently answers calls and texts, even in emergency situations, demonstrating an extraordinary level of dedication. A few months back, I recall exchanging lengthy messages with him about getting someone into immediate detox, only to discover later that he was spending time with his family at Disneyland 🫣. James, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your tireless support and care for those in recovery; your impact is invaluable, and we appreciate you more than words can convey.

The Prisoner's Hope

Transforming Lives Through Healing Connections 🐴
Behind every statistic about incarceration, there is a child waiting, hoping, and navigating a world that can feel incredibly heavy.
Right now, we have a beautiful opportunity to send four incredible young girls—all of whom have or have had an incarcerated parent—to a transformative equine therapy program. If you've ever been around horses, you know the profound healing, confidence, and peace they can bring to a child's heart.
To make this happen, the total cost for all four girls is $4,500.
We are actively seeking a visionary sponsor or underwriter (or a few co-sponsors) to step up and cover these costs. Your partnership will directly fund their sessions, transportation, and therapist, giving them a safe space to heal and grow.

How you can help:
Become a Sponsor: If you or your business would like to fully underwrite or co-sponsor this program, please send us a DM or comment below.
Please Share This Post: You never know who in your network is looking for a meaningful way to give back.
Let’s come together to wrap our arms around these girls and show them they are seen, loved, and supported. ❤️

The Prisoner’s Hope

This week I was contacted by Norton’s and was asked to be an “end of life” advocate for one of our guys.
The visits were difficult as imagined, and sad.
Thirty nine years of incarceration and now chained and cuffed to a hospital bed - dying.
Joe asked me only one thing, if I’d write a legacy letter and share it on my
Social media.

An Urgent Message & Legacy from Joe knight

For those who know Joe Knight, or for anyone who needs to hear this today:
Joe has been incarcerated for 39 straight years. Today, I am writing, not just as his friend, but as his appointed end-of-life advocate. Joe is currently in serious medical condition, and he is preparing to face the Kentucky State Parole Board for the fourth time.
Over the last four decades, Joe has changed considerably. He has lived a committed Christian life for at least 30 of those years. Sadly, as happens too often in long-term incarceration, much of his family has either passed away or drifted apart.
With his health failing, Joe asked me to share a final legacy message with the world. He wants his life—and his regrets—to serve as a turning point for someone else.
His message to you is simple but profound: > "Our decisions impact not only our days, but sometimes the rest of our lives. They also impact family, others and well, “Sometimes they impact people we are not even aware of.
Joe asked me to share this specific poem by Richard Shelton, which perfectly captures the weight of the choices we make when we are young:

Certain Choices
By Richard Shelton
My friend, who was a he**in addict, is dead and buried beneath trash
and broken bottles in a prison field.
He died, like he lived: hard and alone.
He lived a life of suffering and died the same.
After enough choices are made, there remains fewer each day. For the ones made in brokenness hem us in.
That’s just
the way it is with certain choices,
and we are faced with them.
I have few friends, and none of them are replaceable. That’s the way it is
with friends. We make certain choices.

Please keep Joe in your thoughts and prayers - as he faces the parole board and navigates his health battle.

If this message touches you, please share it.
At least we can make Joe’s end of days hopes come true ..

The Prisoner’s Hope

This post will be lengthy but worth the read:
One of my favorite things (when and if possible) is to trace for the fingerprints of God on things that have happened.
Ex: what started this, who moved the ball, how did this get to here, etc.
So often you see how the Lord worked through things and/or folks in unimaginable ways to get done some of the most beautiful things this side of Heaven.
So here’s a recent one and equally as beautiful.
This year we will have Matthew West performing at our annual TPH Concert.
How did this happen? Read Diana’s story, an amazing story of hope about a son that was devoid of hope.
Diana’s one of our Public Relations advocates and is directly responsible for this great opportunity to have Matthew here in Louisville this year.

Robert’s story:
In August of 2014, I took my son Robert with me to a Matthew West concert at the Kentucky State fair. Robert had been suffering from severe addiction and overdoses and was told by the hospital that if he didn't get help, he would die. While at that concert, Robert and I heard a song titled “Hello My Name Is” which was a song written about a young man named Jordan who had also suffered from addiction.
Jordan was a severe addict and through the help of Matthew West, was sent to Adult Teen Challenge in Elkhart Indiana, where after a year and a half - was freed from his drug addiction and returned to college and ended up teaching at the same College where his addiction had begun.

After the concert, as Matthew West was preparing to sign autographs, I approached him and introduced my son Robert, desperately announcing, he is an addict and he's going to die if he doesn't get help.
Matthew immediately turned and said: “Robert, this is my email, write me your story and my dad's Ministry and I will get you to Adult Teen Challenge in Elkhart Indiana just like we did for Jordan.”After writing his story to Matthew, within one day arrangements were made for Robert to go to that same Adult Teen Challenge where his life was totally changed by God's grace. Robert, now 37, has been he**in free since 2014. Inspired by Robert's story, Matthew West wrote a song called “Grace Wins” which won the best Christian music song at the 2015 K-love awards.

Grace Wins Every Time.

If you want to read more about this powerful story of God's grace -changing a life, Robert's story is also in Matthew West's book titled “Hello My Name is.”

Thank you Diana for the hard work and years of devotion to get Matthew to our stage!
But much more importantly - for making a desperate plea on that day for a son that had lost Hope.
