While we are careful not to call Gallopalooza a “public art” project since some “serious” artists believe that anything painted on a fiberglass animal can’t possibly be “art,” there is no question that thousands of people disagree and believe that the life-sized decorated horses (and 6' tall mint julep cups) are beautiful and thought-provoking. By having sponsors underwrite the initial cost of the

statues and the artist fees, and then businesses and individuals purchase them at auction, the statues are able to be viewed at no cost throughout town on sidewalks and street corners. Having the art accessible to everyone, no matter where they live is an important component of the project.
