We had so much fun at Norton Women's & Children's Hospital Trunk or Treat. It was a great training opportunity to be around so many children and adults dressed in unusual ways!!

🐶 Did you know that becoming an assistance dog takes a lot of practice learning to ignore distractions?

Sullie’s assignment for today: walk through a store and behave like I've been here approximately 900 times.
New smells? Ignore.
People? Ignore.
Noises? Ignore.
Mannequins? Suspicious, but ignore.
Honestly, I'm getting good at this!

Training starts young at Paws With Purpose, and puppy class gives our weekend puppy raisers the skills and guidance they need to keep that training going at home and out in the community.

Right now, these pups are learning that not everything needs a reaction. They’re practicing settling calmly with other puppies nearby, walking without getting distracted by everything around them, and making eye contact with their handlers.

For a young puppy, that takes a lot of self control! Each calm moment, focused look, and successful walk in position is helping prepare them for their future success as an assistance or facility dog.

PWP Ann + PWP Hudson welcomed ten adorable puppies on July 16th.

🐶These little pups are busy exploring new sights and sounds, meeting new people, and beginning to learn some of the skills that will help prepare them for a future as an assistance or facility dog.
