🌟 Faculty Spotlight: Justice Salvador Mungia & Nicholas Williams

We’re honored to spotlight Justice Salvador Mungia and Nicholas Williams, who serve as Program Directors for Building Trial Skills: Seattle (August 12–16).

Justice Salvador Mungia was elected to the Washington Supreme Court in November 2024 and sworn in January 2025. Raised in Tacoma as the son of immigrants from Mexico and Japan, he brings both a strong personal perspective and decades of legal experience to the bench. He earned degrees with honors from Pacific Lutheran University and Georgetown University Law Center, followed by clerkships at both the Washington Supreme Court and federal district court.

Before joining the Court, Justice Mungia spent 38 years in private practice, handling complex civil trial and appellate matters, including aviation accidents, insurance coverage and bad faith, medical negligence, wrongful death, commercial disputes, and constitutional issues. His work has been widely recognized, including fellowship in the American Board of Trial Advocates and Litigation Counsel of America, over 20 years of AV Preeminent ratings, designation as a Washington Super Lawyer, and recognition by Best Lawyers in America since 2011.

A respected leader and educator, he has served as president of multiple bar associations, taught with NITA and at Emory Law’s Kessler‑Eidson Program, authored in the Washington Civil Procedure Deskbook, and spoken at over 100 CLE programs. His career is also defined by a strong commitment to access to justice and pro bono service, earning numerous awards for his impact.

Nicholas Williams represents the next generation of elite trial advocacy. He has defended clients facing the most serious criminal charges, including capital cases in state and federal court, and is known for combining compassion with rigorous, strategic advocacy.

In addition to his litigation practice, Nicholas is an adjunct faculty member at Emory University School of Law, where he teaches trial advocacy with a modern, dynamic approach. He brings energy, precision, and a client‑focused perspective to his work. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign and Saint Louis University School of Law.

Together, they offer a rare opportunity to learn from both a nationally respected jurist and an accomplished trial lawyer — blending seasoned judgment with fresh courtroom insight.

🌟 Faculty Spotlight: Hon. Rhonda Laumann & Eric Newman

We’re proud to spotlight Hon. Rhonda Laumann and Eric Newman, who serve as Program Directors for Deposition Skills: Seattle (August 10–11).

Judge Rhonda Laumann has served on the King County District Court bench since 2018 and is currently assigned to the Burien Courthouse. Prior to her election, she spent six years as a pro tem judge across district and municipal courts in King, Kitsap, and Pierce counties.

Her background spans criminal and civil litigation, mediation, and arbitration. She previously worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney, an insurance staff trial attorney, and owned The Laumann Firm, PLLC, focusing on dispute resolution. On the bench and as a pro tem judge, she has presided over jury trials, felony arraignments, motions, protection orders, and various civil and criminal calendars.

Judge Laumann is also a dedicated educator, having served as an adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Law, teaching core trial skills, and as a leader in multiple NITA programs. She frequently volunteers as a judge in mock trial competitions. She earned her J.D. from the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University School of Law).

Eric Newman is a Litigation Section Chief at the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, where he helps lead enforcement of Washington’s consumer protection laws. He previously served as Chief Litigation Counsel in the Antitrust Division, handling complex state and federal litigation.

Eric has tried dozens of cases in Washington and Oregon and served as a King County District Court Judge Pro Tempore (2013–2019), presiding over both civil and criminal matters.
He is deeply committed to advocacy education, serving as an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law and teaching in NITA programs nationwide, as well as annually at Emory University School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and his J.D., cm laude, from Seattle University School of Law.

Together, Judge Laumann and Eric Newman bring exceptional judicial perspective, trial experience, and teaching excellence—offering participants a unique opportunity to learn deposition skills from both the bench and the bar.
