Justice Salvador Mungia was elected to the Washington Supreme Court in November 2024 and sworn in January 2025. Raised in Tacoma as the son of immigrants from Mexico and Japan, he brings both a strong personal perspective and decades of legal experience to the bench. He earned degrees with honors from Pacific Lutheran University and Georgetown University Law Center, followed by clerkships at both the Washington Supreme Court and federal district court.
Before joining the Court, Justice Mungia spent 38 years in private practice, handling complex civil trial and appellate matters, including aviation accidents, insurance coverage and bad faith, medical negligence, wrongful death, commercial disputes, and constitutional issues. His work has been widely recognized, including fellowship in the American Board of Trial Advocates and Litigation Counsel of America, over 20 years of AV Preeminent ratings, designation as a Washington Super Lawyer, and recognition by Best Lawyers in America since 2011.
A respected leader and educator, he has served as president of multiple bar associations, taught with NITA and at Emory Law’s Kessler‑Eidson Program, authored in the Washington Civil Procedure Deskbook, and spoken at over 100 CLE programs. His career is also defined by a strong commitment to access to justice and pro bono service, earning numerous awards for his impact.
Nicholas Williams represents the next generation of elite trial advocacy. He has defended clients facing the most serious criminal charges, including capital cases in state and federal court, and is known for combining compassion with rigorous, strategic advocacy.
In addition to his litigation practice, Nicholas is an adjunct faculty member at Emory University School of Law, where he teaches trial advocacy with a modern, dynamic approach. He brings energy, precision, and a client‑focused perspective to his work. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign and Saint Louis University School of Law.
Together, they offer a rare opportunity to learn from both a nationally respected jurist and an accomplished trial lawyer — blending seasoned judgment with fresh courtroom insight.
