WLKY Bell Awards WLKY Bell Awards honor the outstanding volunteers in the Louisville area. Any unpaid volunteer is eligible to be nominated for a Bell Award.

In 1978 WLKY established the WLKY Spirit of Louisville Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, to oversee an annual celebration that would salute the outstanding humanitarian efforts of local volunteers. Revered as the premier volunteer recognition event in Metro Louisville, more than 360 adults have been awarded the Bell Award for their contribution of time, talent and treasure to make our community a better place to live, work and play. In 1994, the program was expanded to include The Youth Service Honor. This award was created to acknowledge high school students who display the same passion of volunteer service as the adult Bell Award recipients. They are selected on the basis of personal commitment to volunteer work performed above and beyond any academic requirement. It is the spirit of our community, and we’re proud to carry the message and even more honored to salute the generous humanitarian spirit of our citizens.

✨CONGRATULATIONS to 2023 Recipient Ashley Nevison! ✨

Ashley is CEO/Founder of Sergeant’s Army, an organization she started when her cat died of cancer in 2018. At age of 11, she started sewing cat toys out of leftover fabric and donated them to animal shelters. Then she turned her sewing skills to making masks, donating nearly 1,000 masks for essential workers.

Once her organization received its 501(c)3 charitable foundation status, she began fundraising and securing grants to provide hygiene supplies for homeless outreach programs, shelters, schools, churches, and food banks. Ashley has written and published four books with 100% of the proceeds going to her foundation to continue funding her mission.
