Lilly’s Five Degree Rule and Advancing and Withdrawing Places

A Lecture by

Tania Daniels

One of the first principles horary students encounter is the rule that planets within 5° of the cusp of the following house are considered to be in that house. In this talk, we will examine this rule from two perspectives: that of a planet moving in zodiacal order, and that of a planet moving by primary direction.

We will explore how divisional houses, along with the concepts of advancing and withdrawing places, form part of a coherent system that clarifies which planetary agendas the native is likely to realize with ease—and which may involve obstacles, delays, or failure.

Behind the Lots of Fortune and Spirit
“The Hidden Ascendant and the Invisible 10th House”

Fortune and Spirit represent a dimension of astrology that takes us away from the physical heavens into the philosophical realm and highlight the fundamental questions of Fate and Free will. The roots and the concept of Fortune and Spirit date o back to Ancient Greek Philosophy, which is also echoed in the Hellenistic Astrology Texts. At the same time Fortune and Spirit provide inspiring guidance for our understanding of the Journey of Life – both natal and predictive. As derivation of the Sun and the Moon, Fortune and Spirit also shed light on their role in the chart. In this lecture we will explore the ancient sources, see the specific function of Fortune and Spirit in the natal chart.

Join us on Apr. 11, at 7:00 PM EDST for a lecture by Anthony Louis on:

The Lord of the Orb in Traditional Astrology

The planetary hour of birth, and its annual profections in the Chaldean sequence, played an important role in the predictive techniques of medieval and Renaissance astrology. This talk will review the method which is elaborated in the writings of Abu Ma'Shar and many European astrological texts from the Renaissance. The method consisted of using the natal planetary hour and its annual profections as a time-lord that participated with the annual profection's Lord of the Year to pinpoint which areas of the natal chart were likely to manifest in the year ahead, based on the solar return of the native.

Anthony Louis is a retired psychiatrist who became interested in astrology in his teens and has written several books and lectured internationally of various topics in astrology. He has a blog at https://tonylouis.wordpress.com/

From a Medieval Astrologer’s Classroom
How to Tell What Your Client REALLY wants from a Reading

Today, astrology is seen as a fringe topic, condemned by both scientists and Christian churches. However, 900 years ago, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish scholars were doing astrology on a daily basis and working together on writing books on astrological techniques. The twelfth century in particular saw a huge translation movement in Christian Europe, when astrological texts from the Islamic world were translated into Latin for the first time – and the techniques in those texts needed to be taught. The 12th-century scholar Roger of Hereford was teaching schoolkids some pretty sophisticated astrology based on these texts, including some techniques to find out what the client *really* wanted, in his book of "Intentions". Knowing what the client's intention in visiting the astrologer might almost be considered an early version of psychological astrology - just as a modern astrologer might draw up a consultation chart.

Celestial Bodies: Egyptian Medical Astrology of the Decans

a Lecture by Cameron Cassidy

In the cosmology of the ancient Egyptians, the Goddess of the firmament- Nut- the mother of Isis and Osiris, bent herself over the world, holding up the stars and sky. Her body itself is composed of the stars and Decans- the 36 stellar apparitions of the Egyptian celestial gods and timekeepers. Each one, tasked with constructing and preserving (or destroying) one part of the body, reveals the instinctual mechanisms of the body’s construction, housed within the stars of the sky and 36 sectors of the zodiacal heaven. They also reveal predispositions to medical crises, physical blessings or cosmetic enhancements. We will take a look at these 36 body parts, connect them to the segments of the zodiac, and better understand our own mind-body-spirit connection through the lens of this ancient wisdom.

Cameron Cassidy is an astrologer & yoga teacher from Salem, MA. He is also an instructor for Kepler College, as well as the editor for the CAELi Review astrological journal. Centered in the ancient eyes of Babylonian & Egyptian astrology, Cameron blends old & new traditions, seeing where intersections create avenues for eye-opening awareness of the heavens and cosmic healing, from the inside out. With his background in natal & horary astrology, he speaks for astrology groups around the country, sharing his insights on weaving a more holistic and grounded approach to ancient astrology.

The Mysteries of Ceres

A Lecture by Gray Crawford

The celestial body Ceres was originally thought to be a planet when discovered. It was later demoted to asteroid status and has now been promoted to being a dwarf planet on equal astronomical footing with Pluto. Ceres is the queen of the asteroid belt whose astrological meaning resonates with the mythology of her namesake Demeter. In Greek myth Demeter brought both the gift of grain and the mysteries to humanity, nurturing both our material and spiritual capacities and relationships. We will explore the astrological meaning of Ceres and how her significations in natal charts connect with the mythology of Demeter. We will also examine her synodic cycle and how, during our solar return years of 23, 46, and 69 she returns to the same phasal relationship with the Sun that she has in our natal chart.

Gray is a natal, horary, and Electional astrologer and teacher from Olympia, Washington. Gray brings a relational approach to astrology using techniques drawn from ancient and modern sources, synthesizing influences from Hellenistic, magical, mythic-archetypal, and psychological astrology. Gray has taught at UAC, NORWAC, and ISAR astrology conferences, various astrology associations around the USA, and is a faculty member of Kepler College. Gray’s astrological writing has been published on Astrology.com, in WellBeing Astrology, and by Ignota Press. Gray can be contacted on his site graycrawford.net where he also writes astrology articles and offers astrological education.

Omens & Astrology

If your horoscope is a textbook for your life, then Omens are the commentary

Observable omens have modified astrological delineations since the dawn of
astrology. From Ancient Babylon to modern 21st century India, the ability for astrologers to read omens was and is an essential skill. No matter how well you read a chart now, dialing in the omens to your work will only deepen your ability to find meaning.

In this talk, Kenneth will cover the gamut of modern omen reading techniques and teach you the skills needed to understand what the world is trying to tell you.
