The LPC nearly had an open air and masked meeting on November 22. The extended weather forecast was for no rain and 70 degrees. Those predictions changed for the worse the closer the date came so it was canceled. We will have some sort of meeting soon in order to set a date for the 2021 NYBS. I think the meeting need not be in person.

Joyce ordered crushed cobs online for our Fantail lofts. The loft pic is after 4 days in use. The individual pcs are about the size of a BB. I expected them to be against the walls on day 2! Surprising they are staying put. I used much larger crushed cobs before, and they stayed put, but oddly, the larger pcs ended up in the fly pens and in the door frames. Warning: it is expensive. BTW, Joyce did both 8 x 12 lofts, and some smaller ones, by herself.

Dear LPC Members and Followers:

A decision was made today regarding the 2020 National Young Bird Show. Due to the threat of spreading the Covid-19 at such a large gathering of people, and based on the safeguards in place now, it was decided to set our sights on NYBS October 2021. Many factors figured into this decision. A greatly reduced entry would have been a real possibility if the show were to be held this year. Safe distancing at the show would have been impossible to enforce. Other considerations, health wise and financial, were discussed. The need to act now became clear. We can`t know how serious the pandemic will be in late October but we did not have the luxury of guessing or of waiting.

My personal conviction that the show should be canceled is based on the proven scientific finding that a person can be infected with the virus but have no symptoms. Then, thinking they are not infected, that infected person might fail to practice safety measures and unknowingly spread the virus to others. The greatest benefit of wearing of a mask is to protect others by nearly eliminating breath droplets from reaching other people. Show you care. Wear a mask or safe distance yourself.

I spoke with John DeCarlo, the president of the NPA today. They are still planning for the Grand National in January 2021 but must abide by any decision made by the Kentucky State Fairgrounds and the State of Kentucky.

Thanks to all who attended this sad but historic LPC/NYBS meeting today and helped reach this difficult decision. You are a great group of people!

Denny
