Great moment this evening when some of our guys and so many others from the recovery community met with officials in Richmond County to discuss ways to increase outreach to those in need.

As the wife of Rev. Cain, Monica has her hands in a little bit of everything at Benaiah. She serves as the Secretary on the Board of Directors, but she’s so much more than that! We’d be lost without Monica’s attention to detail and commitment to excellence.

Check out our chat with Monica!

🔘 Tell us what Benaiah Ministries means to you?

Benaiah Ministries has been Bill’s dream for a number of years. You might say that I was “along for the ride” as God has provided the different avenues that make up our new ministry. The Sober Living House, one of those avenues, gives recovering addicts an opportunity to encounter encouragement and healing through Jesus Christ. As for the future, I hope Benaiah Ministries is filled to capacity and expands to another house in order to serve more recovering addicts.

🔘 What’s your favorite Bible verse?

Our children are now grown but the verse that we practiced daily was Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord all that you do and your plans will succeed”. This was a great teaching tool to explain that seeking God’s guidance and personal preparation are both necessary in life for success.

🔘 Who’s your hero of the faith and in what way has he/she inspired you?

My Mimi (grandmother) read through her Bible multiple times a year, and when anyone came to her door, she loved to invite them into her home. She would see what they had to say, share with them about Jesus, and point them to exactly what the Bible did and did not say. The individuals always left saying that they had learned something from Miss Bessie. She was confident in her beliefs, and it made quite the impression on me.

🔘 What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I love spending time with our two grandchildren. I also love spending time with our dogs. But my favorite hobby is needlepoint. I love experimenting with different colors and textures of the fibers and trying new stitches while wondering exactly how the finished project will look in the end.

Did you know that between 40 and 60 percent of addicts will experience a relapse to some degree in their recovery journey? (https://tinyurl.com/DrugAbusePublications)

When this happens, family and friends are left struggling to believe their loved ones will ever overcome addiction. All they can see is destruction and failed attempts at recovery.

Destruction is the fruit of sowing to our flesh (Galatians 6:7-8).

But these stories don’t have to end in destruction.

3 Ways You Can Pray For Men In Recovery:

1️⃣ Pray that God would break every chain of addiction.

2️⃣ Pray that God would meet families in their grief.

3️⃣ Pray that God would bring healing in place of destruction.

Every time you pray for a man in recovery, you make a difference in his battle with addiction.

Dr. Molly Howard generously gives of her time and resources as a board member for Benaiah Ministries. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. These attributes plus her heart for serving others make Dr. Howard a great asset to our team and this community.

🔘 Tell us what Benaiah Ministries means to you?

Benaiah Ministries personifies Christ Jesus' expectation for us to love and serve one another. This ministry is a group of like-minded individuals with one spirit who’ve heard Jesus' call to serve Him through serving others. Benaiah will strengthen individuals and these individuals will, in turn, strengthen our community. Then our community will strengthen more individuals, creating a beautiful cycle where everybody wins!

🔘 What’s Your Favorite Bible Verse?

Matthew 25:40: "And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."

This verse has resonated with me since I was a small child in Sunday School. From that early age, this verse has been my guide on what is right. If I curse my brother, I curse Jesus. If I serve my brother, I serve Jesus. The question, “Would I treat Jesus like this or that?” has a clear answer and subsequently clear directions on what He expects from us. From Jesus, we can see that love (unconditional, non-judgmental love) and service are our callings.

🔘 Who’s Your Hero of The Faith And In What Way Has He/She Inspired You?

My 96-year-old father, Randall Reeves Parish, Sr. is my hero of the Faith. He’s been a soldier in Christ all of his life. I grew up hearing stories of his experiences serving in WWII and the Korean War. Some of the stories were sad because they often included death, but most of his stories included blessings from God. Several of these stories describe incidents when he was called in to pray for a dying soldier. Daddy never understood why they called on him for these final prayers. He felt so unworthy. He saw himself the same as every other soldier. But I know why they looked to him. My Daddy's love of Christ shone so brightly that others could see it. He is a source of love and comfort for others just as Jesus is for him.

🔘 What Are Some of Your Favorite Hobbies?

I love to cook for my family. I love that my house is where our large family gathers for special occasions. I also enjoy time alone working with my flowers and fishing with my husband.
