🌍 Food waste = wasted resources + more pollution.

In America, up to 40% of our food supply goes to waste and much of it ends up in landfills, producing harmful greenhouse gases.

✅ At Kentucky Harvest, we rescue that food
✅ Feed our neighbors
✅ Protect our planet

This World Environment Day, be part of the solution. Volunteer, tell someone about food rescue, and/or donate to help.

We were honored to participate in LIBA’s Buy Local Fair this past Sunday! 🤩

Events like this remind us how strong our local community is and how much we can accomplish when we work together. Every conversation helps spread the word about food rescue and the impact it has on hunger and the environment.

Grateful for our dedicated staff, Michael and Meghan, and our Board Chair, Cindy Overton-Adkins, who help move this mission forward every day. 💚

Last night, Kentucky Harvest was honored to attend the 20th Anniversary Celebration at Origin Park hosted by One Southern Indiana Chamber & Economic Development! 🎉

We joined 1SI to help expand food rescue efforts in Southern Indiana and strengthen support for nonprofit partners serving that community. Building relationships across the river helps us rescue more food, reduce waste, and get nutritious meals to people who need them most. 💚🚚

It was especially fun celebrating alongside community leaders, friends, and my fellow Leadership Louisville classmates, Tish Thomas-Frederick and Shannon Jenkins (and Tyler Bliss - not pictured) and of course spending the evening with our Director of Development, Michael!

A special shoutout to BAYA for donating excess food from their recent Wings of Worth Gala. Partnerships like these show how events and organizations can make a lasting impact even after the celebration ends.

Thank you to 1SI for 20 years of leadership, collaboration, and community impact. We’re excited to continue growing together and keep !

School’s almost out for summer… and that means hunger doesn’t take a vacation. ☀️💚

For many children, summer can mean less reliable access to meals once school cafeterias close. That’s why food rescue matters now more than ever.

This summer, you can make a difference by helping Kentucky Harvest rescue good food and deliver it to local nonprofits serving families across our community. Even better? Kids can help too! 🚚🥕 It’s a great way to teach children about compassion, community service, sustainability, and the importance of giving back.

Whether it’s a quick food pickup through the Food Rescue Hero app or helping load and deliver food, every rescue helps move good food to people who need it most.

Make service part of your summer memories and help us continue !

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we are grateful for the freedoms we enjoy because of their courage and service. We also recognize the many veterans, military families, and neighbors in our community who continue to inspire us through their strength and sacrifice.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to the veterans who serve as Kentucky Harvest volunteers. Your continued commitment to serving others and strengthening our community means so much to us. 💚

From all of us at Kentucky Harvest, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day as we remember those who gave everything for our nation. ❤️🤍💙

Food insecurity in Kentuckiana has increased by an alarming 48% in just the last two years. Today, nearly 1 in 7 people in our community — including 1 in 5 children — struggles to access enough nutritious food.

At the same time, thousands of pounds of perfectly good food are still going to waste every single day.

That’s where food rescue comes in. 💚🚚

At Kentucky Harvest, we rescue surplus food from restaurants, grocers, wholesalers, and other partners and quickly deliver it to nonprofits serving families, seniors, children, and individuals facing hunger. Food rescue helps bridge the gap between growing need and available resources — while also keeping good food out of landfills.

You can help make that impact possible every month through Plate It Forward, our monthly giving program. https://kyharvest.org/plate-it-forward/ Even a small recurring gift helps fuel food pickups, deliveries, volunteer coordination, and technology that gets food where it’s needed most. And every $1 helps us rescue 4 meals.

When hunger rises, our community rises too. Join Plate It Forward today and help us continue 💚

Did you know Kentucky Harvest is believed to be the second oldest food rescue organization in the United States? 💚🚚

Since 1987, we’ve been rescuing good food that would otherwise go to waste and delivering it to local nonprofits serving people in need across Kentuckiana. What started nearly four decades ago as a simple idea - that good food belongs on tables, not in landfills - has grown into a movement that now rescues millions of pounds of food each year.

Long before food waste and sustainability became national conversations, Kentucky Harvest was already doing the work:
🥖 Rescuing surplus food
🏠 Supporting shelters, pantries, and recovery programs
🌎 Reducing landfill waste and harmful emissions
❤️ Feeding our community with dignity

Today, with the help of volunteers, food donors, nonprofit partners, and supporters like you, that mission continues stronger than ever.

Thank you for helping us continue this legacy of neighbors helping neighbors. Together, we’re

We had a great time this week touring Smurfit Westrock Recycling! ♻️

It’s always inspiring to see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into keeping materials out of landfills—and it connects so closely to our mission of rescuing good food before it’s wasted.

We’re especially excited about future opportunities to partner with Know Waste Louisville to help educate our community about recycling and reducing waste.

Because when we all do our part, we can keep more out of landfills—and get more good food into the hands of those who need it most. 💚
