Typically, as an end of the year tradition, we have each class paint a self portrait. However, this year we wanted to add a bit of a twist! We decided to have everyone paint a portrait of a friend in the class. Pottery + painting + summer creativity all in one camp ☀️🎨

Learn hand-building pottery techniques while creating your own ceramic watercolor palette! Campers will sculpt, glaze, and customize functional pottery pieces, then experiment with making watercolor paints and natural dyes from flowers, plants, and spices. Leave with handmade art supplies and a one-of-a-kind palette to use all summer long.

Today we painted a sky! Not just any sky, but their very own sky! We provided multiple shades of blue paint, textures to explore, and a large surface to spread their ideas upon! Sometimes their ideas and skies crept up their arms and onto their elbows, but who can resist the feel of cool, wet, and squishy paint between your fingures.

If we were to present children with pre assembled sky’s, clouds and ideas then how would we ever know what the child knows, sees, or thinks. Our lenses are different. We must not loose the voice of the child with pre assembled adult ideas.
