It Starts with Someone: Connie’s Crusaders

They are determined, and they will not stop raising money until a cure for pancreatic cancer has been found. For Susan Jonas, and fellow members of the Louisville -based Purplestride team “Connie’s Crusaders” that sentiment could not be stronger. Susan lost her mother, Connie Erickson, to pancreatic cancer in 2015 after 18 months. Since then, she has made it her mission to help others who are fighting the disease through fundraising. One unique aspect of the Connie’s Crusaders fundraising team is that they channel Erickson’s love of art and cooking.

Susan’s mom was an amazing artist and calligrapher as a hobby. After she passed, Susan was helping her dad get their winter home ready to sell. She found a show box with some of her mom’s zentangle artwork it it and thought, this is a way too nice to be in a shoe box. She asked her did if we could make them into not cards, sell them and donate 100% of the money raised to PanCan in her mom’s memory. He was totally supportive. We sold over 300 boxes of note cards in just 3 months. Soon after, Connie’s Creations was born. It’s now developed into a full line of beautiful artwork. This has been an amazing way to keep Connie’s legacy alive and give HOPE to others!!! Our most recent venture was Connie’s Creative Cuisine Cookbook. We compiled Connie’s favorite tried-and-true recipes including those of her friends and family. The cookbook also features several pieces of her artwork and calligraphy. It’s a wonderful collection of her love of art and her love of cooking!

Connie’s Crusaders, a top-preforming team, have participated in Purplestirde events since 2015. We have raised more then $50.000 to date for the cause. We have made this our passion and are doing everything we know to help find a cure for this horrible cancer that took Connie and many others too soon! We will not stop raising money until we hear the magical words, A CURE HAS BEEN FOUND”
