Research shows again and again that wages directly affect DSP retention (Pettingell et al., 2022). Having a stable DSP is also a vital determinate for achieving positive outcomes (Friedman, 2025). Federal recognition of the vital roles of our caregivers is a small (but essential!) first step for implementing policies that make the best social and financial impacts!

ACTION ALERT: Contact your 2 U.S. Senators before Aug 5! Tell them why DSPs deserve recognition as an essential profession. Ask them to support & advance S. 3211 today.

I'd like to thank Andy Beshear and Steven J. Stack for their announcement today regarding 5 vital Medicaid issues. Because of the Commonwealth's growth in jobs and industry, and as per the announcement made today at 1:30 they are able to (and I quote):

"1. Fully fund the Department for Community Based Services.
2. Maintain full funding for healthcare providers (i.e. no 4% cut)
3. Fully fund Medicaid
4. Expand the number of slots for the Michelle P waiver and fully fund both the existing slots and the new slots.
5. Provide the dollars needed for senior meals."

Steven Stack spoke about how "Your advocacy matters."....that everyone showing up to the Medicaid Oversight and Advisory Board on June 24 to save Lee Specialty Clinic and the follow up rally on July 17 MADE A DIFFERENCE! Andy Beshear says we should, "Keep speaking out." as this respite from cuts will only last for this fiscal year (and provided they're not challenged). Next year cuts may be higher...so do not give up! Keep speaking up! Keep contacting our legislators! You DO make a difference!!!!
