🚵♂️ KYMBA Louisville – Summer 2026 Update
☀️ Summer is in full swing, and it's time for our third-quarter update. If you've noticed trail issues and would like to learn how to help address them, please reach out. We have a small but dedicated volunteer team, and we're always looking for more people to get involved, regardless of experience level.
🤝 Whether you're interested in volunteering, donating, or simply learning more about what we do, feel free to reach out to Jeremy Lally. [email protected]
💚 Thank You, Orr Protection!
🎉 A huge thank you to Orr Protection for their generous $10,000 donation to KYMBA Louisville. Contributions like this make a real difference and help us continue improving trails, supporting volunteers, and growing the mountain bike community throughout our region.
🙏 Please consider supporting the businesses that support our trails.

🌎 Community Outreach
✅ YES for Parks Coalition
🏞️ Olmsted Parks recently invited KYMBA Louisville to join the YES for Parks coalition. We were happy to join more than 50 organizations that support investment in our local parks and public spaces.

🛠️ Trail Days & Trail Updates
🌳 Cherokee Park
📅 Trail Day: TBD
🕒 Time: TBD
🚲 Brian Sandmann is coordinating with Olmsted Parks on another Cherokee Trail Day. The recent Franks and Berms event was a big success, and we're hoping to do something similar again soon.
💡 If you have ideas for trail improvements and would like to help make them happen, we'd love to hear from you.
🏗️ Seneca Skills Area (Discussion Only)
🛹 We're continuing discussions about a small skills area with progressive features and drops. Nothing has been approved yet, but additional volunteers could help move projects like this forward much faster.
📧 Interested in helping? Contact Jeremy at [email protected].
🌲 Briar Hill Park
📅 A trail day is tentatively planned for either July 25 or August 1. Trail Steward Eric George will share final details once the date is confirmed.
🔨 If there are trail improvements you'd like to see and help build, please reach out.
🌿 Waverly Park
🙌 Thanks to Jade, Jefferson Memorial Forest, Louisville Parks & Recreation, and our volunteers for continuing to support this trail system.
📅 Upcoming trail days are weather dependent:
🚧 Saturday, July 25 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
🚧 Thursday, August 6 | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
🚧 Saturday, August 29 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

👏 A special thank you to Brian Borgmann and Jimmy Flaherty for the countless hours they contribute outside of scheduled workdays.
📣 Waverly is still looking for a Trail Steward. If you're interested or know someone who might be a good fit, please let us know.
⛰️ Fort Duffield
📅 MTB Trail Day: TBD
💪 Our amazing Trail Steward, Derek Fetko, could use additional help maintaining the trails. Recent storms and heavy rain have had a significant impact on the park, and volunteers are needed to help with repairs and improvements.
🥾 A hiking trail workday hosted by another selfless volunteer, Vince Carman, is also being planned. We will share the dates once we have them.
🚵 Once those projects are completed, Fort Duffield will officially feature a dedicated downhill MTB-only zone.
🚲 Silo Center Bike Park / Turkey Run Park
🛠️ We're planning a dig day at the Silo Bike Park on July 23 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
👏 Big thanks to John Sutton with Parklands and Brian Sandmann for volunteering to make this happen.
🏞️ New Albany Future Bike Park
🚀 The New Albany Bike Park project continues to gain momentum, although an official construction start date has not yet been announced.
📄 The city recently obtained a letter of support from KYMBA Louisville and is actively pursuing grant opportunities to help move the project forward.
🏛️ We also expect an announcement from the Mayor's office sometime during the next quarter as the project continues to progress.
🙋 If you're interested in future volunteer opportunities associated with this project, please reach out and let us know.
🌲 O'Bannon Woods Mountain Biking
📅 Trail workdays are held on select Sundays beginning at 10:00 AM, with volunteers meeting at the pool parking lot.
📱 For the latest volunteer information and weather-related updates, follow the O'Bannon Woods Mountain Biking page.
👋 New volunteers are always welcome.
🚴 Highland Park Bike Park
🏗️ There are no major updates to share at this time, but progress continues behind the scenes.
💪 If you'd like to help create an amazing year-round riding destination, consider getting involved with the project.
⛏️ Saunders Springs
🛠️ Dig days are currently being planned. Watch the KYMBA Louisville and Lincoln Trails pages for updates.
Current Project Priorities
🔧 Maintenance on Hellavator
⬇️ Continued development of the downhill flow trail (approximately 200 feet of elevation change)
🌊 Otter Creek
✅ Otter Creek officially transferred to Meade County on July 2. Parking passes and fees went into effect on July 13.
🚗 Parking Fees
• One-Day Pass: $5
• Five-Day Pass: $20
• Annual Pass: $75 (covers up to two vehicles)
📌 Passes are tied to license plates, and all revenue generated remains in the park.
🔗 Otter Creek Recreation Area
https://fw.ky.gov/pages/otter-creek-outdoor-recreation-area.aspx
⚡ Meade County is considering rule changes that would allow Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes within the park.
👏 Vince Carman and Eric Schweighauser recently provided an educational presentation to county officials regarding e-bike classifications and user groups. Their efforts have helped build strong support for the proposed changes.
🎉 This is a major win for the mountain biking community.
🙏 Thank you to Eric and Vince for taking the time to educate decision-makers and advocate for responsible trail access.
📧 Interested in volunteering or learning more about future plans at Otter Creek? Contact Eric Schweighauser.
🌲 Deam Lake (Indiana)
To move this project forward, we need:
✅ Volunteers
✅ DNR-certified sawyers
✅ Someone with trail flagging experience
🎯 The initial goal is to create a beginner-friendly hike-and-bike trail.
🌟 This park has tremendous potential, but it will take volunteers to make it happen.
💪 Even a small group of dedicated people can make a lasting impact.
