"A lawsuit arguing that Kentucky’s tax on menstrual products is unconstitutional will be allowed to proceed through the courts, Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Melissa Logan Bellows ruled Thursday. This comes roughly a month after the judge heard arguments over the state’s motion to dismiss the case that Alex Baldon and Skylar Davis filed in March. These women assert that Kentucky is discriminating against women on the basis of s*x by taxing period products like tampons and pads when no comparable product for males is thus taxed."

"Surrogacy, though far from common, has entered the national spotlight this summer, the result of an explosive case in which an Alaska woman named McKenna West — who had been hired to carry a pregnancy for a California-based couple — traveled to Texas to seek medical care after refusing to have an abortion. She gave birth in Dallas last week."

Surrogacy has largely escaped the political fight over reproductive rights. Now, anti-abortion activists see an opening to restrict the practice in Texas and across the country.

"Less than a week after a federal judge ruled that Idaho cannot enforce state abortion bans in certain physical or mental health-related instances, the Idaho Attorney General’s Office appealed the case to a higher court. Idaho District Court Judge B. Lynn Winmill issued his decision Aug. 13 in a case brought by Boise maternal-fetal medicine specialist Stacy Seyb. Seyb, who primarily sees high-risk patients, said Idaho’s strict abortion bans prevented him from providing his patients with adequate care."

Raúl Labrador’s appeal came just days after a federal judge ruled that Idaho cannot enforce abortion bans in some physical and mental health cases.

Muriel’s focus will be on the challenges of access to reproductive care...

“Abortion bans, OB-GYN flight, medical misogyny, and transphobia have made it very unsafe for pregnant people as well as anyone on their reproductive journey to receive the care they need. As people of faith and people of conscience, how do we address this?"

She will be joined by our Board Vice-Chairperson, Bernie Mudd, who will share her gifts of singing and musical talent, and our Board Chair, Patricia FitzGerald, who will offer the closing words.
