If you’re not part of the Nanih Waiya PTO, you’re truly missing out!
We have so many new and exciting things happening as we work to show our teachers just how much we appreciate everything they do for our students.
This month, we proudly celebrated our first PTO-sponsored Teacher of the Month, Mrs. Brandi Garrard. Mrs. Garrard was chosen by her colleagues as the January Teacher of the Month, and they had so many wonderful things to say about her dedication and heart for our school. This new initiative is being led by one of our newest PTO members, Mrs. Jesse Sills, and we’re so excited to see it grow.
Not only did we recognize Mrs. Garrard, but we also showed appreciation to our entire staff. Another new PTO member, Madison Russell - who also serves as our new Treasurer - headed up our Monthly Teacher Appreciation Committee. She put together a variety of snacks and beverages and personally delivered them room by room, bringing smiles to so many faces today!
Our PTO scholarship for Nanih Waiya seniors will be released on Tuesday. During our November meeting, we voted to return to our roots and name the scholarship in honor of our founder, Mrs. Tammy Boykin. Seniors, be sure to pick up your Topic and Rubric for the Tammy Boykin Memorial Scholarship next week. All essays will be due by March 6, 2026.
We also have several fundraisers planned to support all of these wonderful efforts. Next week, we’ll be selling Candy Grams for Valentine’s Day, so be on the lookout for more information!
Our next PTO meeting will be Monday, February 2nd. We’re excited to welcome a special guest speaker, Mrs. Belynda Swart, Assistant Superintendent of Education. She will talk with us about the importance of community involvement in schools, how resources are allocated, and possibly share insight on new education bills that are currently in the works. Many of us may not realize how changes like these can impact small schools, so this will be a great opportunity to learn more.
Remember, PTO membership is just $10. There are several committees that will need support as we continue to grow. The more help we have - whether hands-on or monetary - the more we can do to support our teachers and staff.
As we begin a new era with the PTO, let’s go big. Our teachers are the backbone of our school. Help the Nanih Waiya PTO continue to give back to those who give so much every day.
Thank you all,
Your PTO President 💙
