1) Senator Lindsey Tichenor for District 6 will be on KET tonight at 8PM (Spectrum Channel 13) on a panel about student ed outcomes.
2) I pains me to reveal that the Oldham County Republican Party, through financial mismanagement and poor budgetary decision-making, has managed to only raise and allocate $1,000 for Lindsey Tichenor (one of the best senators in KY, and in the toughest senate race in KY) and ZERO dollars for Republican Judge-Executive candidate Rob Houchens. Many of us have elderly relatives who have experienced dementia, or who have been scammed by malevolent fraudsters or malign actors even within their social groups, so in sympathy I am personally donating $1,001 dollars to Lindsey Sublett Tichenor and $201 to Rob Houchens to more than double the County Party's contribution to these crucial races.
If you have the means, I urge you to join me in going to https://TichenorForKentucky.com and/or to https://www.RobHouchens.com/ to help fill in the gaps left by a lack of magnanimity or wisdom.
Let's listen to our better angels, and keep these officials of integrity in office through generosity of spirit. These Louisville collar and suburb races (eg Julie Raque Adams, Susan Tyler Witten, Ken Fleming...) really are the frontlines of momentum in the general assembly. Thank you so much for anything you can do, every little bit helps.
I have no desire to make this page political.
Child welfare should never be a political game or a political ploy. Protecting Kentucky kids should not belong to Republicans or Democrats. Unfortunately, what should be and what actually happens are often two very different things.
I have watched child-welfare “gains” celebrated based on numbers and narratives that I believe deserve much deeper scrutiny. And I have learned that advocating for children sometimes feels like playing a strategic game of chess — except the consequences of every move are borne by real children.
So while I do not intend to turn this page into a political page, I absolutely believe the public deserves to know which elected officials are willing to show up, listen, learn and actually help.
I also encourage each of you to reach out to your legislators, whether or not you are affiliated with the same political party. Tell them about your concerns and your hopes for child-welfare reform, transparency and accountability. Legislators need to hear directly from the people they represent, and child welfare should be an issue that crosses party lines.

Lindsey is relatively new to politics. She came into office without years of political experience, and one of the things I have appreciated most is that she has never pretended to know something she doesn’t.
She has been attentive, responsive, honest and humble enough to say, “I don’t know enough about this yet” — and then actually take the time to learn.
During the chaos of the last legislative session, while working on her own legislative priorities, Lindsey took the time to learn about federal requirements surrounding Plans of Safe Care for substance-exposed infants. She listened to my concerns, helped me gain support from other legislators and worked toward legislation strengthening protections for some of Kentucky’s most vulnerable babies.
More recently, Lindsey helped me secure a meeting with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office. She didn’t just make an introduction and move on. She came to the meeting, sat through it, absorbed an overwhelming amount of information, asked questions and wanted to know what she could do to help.
She also sat beside me in the courtroom the day my lawsuit concerning CHFS open-records access to child-fatality files was heard.
Those things matter to me.
Over the past decade, I have contacted more legislators than I can count. Many never responded. Some responded politely and disappeared. A very small number have actually taken the time to understand how complicated these issues are and then continued showing up.
Lindsey has.
I don’t know her opponents, and I’m not going to speak negatively about people I don’t know. I can only tell you about my own experience.
And my experience is that Lindsey Tichenor has been willing to listen, willing to learn, willing to work across party lines and willing to use her position to try to make things better for Kentucky kids.
I will support the people who support this work.
I will recognize the legislators who answer the phone, sit at the table, ask the hard questions and are willing to put children ahead of politics.
And I think the public deserves to know who those people are.
In my experience, Sen. Lindsey Tichenor is one of them.
