Meet Tanushree

Tanushree is a senior Neuroscience student at the University of Louisville. She has been volunteering at FCC since 2023 as a medical scribe, where she helps document provider notes during patient visits. Her role helps appointments run more efficiently and allows providers to focus more fully on patient care. Tanushree was drawn to FCC because of its mission to provide free, accessible healthcare to the community. While searching for volunteer opportunities, she wanted to be part of something that directly supports patients who may otherwise face barriers to care. With previous scribe experience in the UofL Emergency Department, FCC felt like the perfect place for her to continue learning while giving back.

One of her favorite parts about FCC is the teamwork. She often works closely with providers and translators, and she finds it rewarding to see how everyone collaborates to support each patient. She also enjoys meeting fellow volunteers who are passionate about healthcare and service.
Another aspect of FCC that stands out to Tanushree is how patient care is tailored to each individual. She recalls seeing a provider help a patient manage diabetes by incorporating culturally familiar foods into their diet rather than asking them to completely change their lifestyle. Experiences like this highlighted the importance of cultural competency in healthcare and made her time at FCC especially meaningful.

Outside of FCC, Tanushree enjoys drawing in her sketchbook, going on walks in parks, and reading.
Volunteering at FCC has reinforced her interest in medicine and strengthened her commitment to serving diverse communities. It has shown her how essential compassion, accessibility, and understanding are in providing quality healthcare.

In Kentucky SNAP (food stamp) benefits cannot be purchase toilet paper or other essential hygiene items. At FCC we see firsthand the disparities in the community. That’s why we were honored to support the Cathedral of the Assumption Social Concerns Committee during their toilet paper drive last week that benefits the Hygiene Closet at Central Louisville Community Ministries, Inc. Thank you to Doctors for Healthy Communities for bringing us this donation. Pictured: DHC volunteer Ms. Norma Hyberger, Gina our executive secretary, and all the toilet paper that was donated! Thank you to everyone who made this all possible!

We’re excited to share what our scribe Junaid Shahzad had to say about Dr. Lippmann and his experience at FCC!
It’s moments like these that remind us how impactful mentorship, dedication, and teamwork can be. We’re incredibly proud of both Junaid and Dr. Lippmann for the work they’re doing and the example they set every day.

Dr. Steven Lippmann didn’t just open his clinic, he opened his home. For a sleep-deprived new mom and a future medical resident, that simple act of kindness changed everything. Read more in this tribute to a lifelong mentor here https://joom.ag/Hhvd

Meet Lindsey Lankford.

Lindsey has been scribing at FCC since August 2024, where she serves as a dedicated volunteer supporting providers by documenting patient appointments with accuracy and care. In this role, she works closely with clinicians, gaining firsthand exposure to patient care while helping ensure that each visit is thoroughly and thoughtfully recorded. She began scribing at FCC to gain meaningful clinical experience, but also with a strong desire to give back and serve her community in a tangible way. One of Lindsey’s favorite aspects of FCC is the people. She consistently speaks about the kindness and supportiveness of both the staff and her fellow volunteers, noting that the welcoming environment makes every shift something she genuinely looks forward to. She especially values the opportunity to connect with patients, taking time to listen to their stories and contribute, even in a small way, to their care experience. These interactions have deepened her appreciation for patient-centered care and strengthened her passion for working in a clinical setting. Overall, she believes FCC fosters an environment rooted in respect, compassion, and collaboration, making it an ideal place to both learn and serve.
Beyond her individual contributions, Lindsey has also played a vital role in strengthening the scribe program. Through her enthusiasm and positive experience, she has helped bring in many new scribes, encouraging others to get involved and support FCC’s mission. Her initiative, leadership, and genuine belief in the organization have made a lasting impact, and FCC is truly indebted to Lindsey for her continued dedication and advocacy. Outside of FCC, Lindsey enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, often going for walks or runs to unwind. She values time with friends, especially when it involves playing games and sharing laughs. In her free time, she also loves baking and experimenting with new recipes, as well as exploring new restaurants and cuisines. Additionally, she enjoys reading, which provides both relaxation and an opportunity to continue learning beyond her clinical experiences.
