We're so proud to have worked with Rep. Jason Nemes and so many others to make some of these landmark changes to mental health treatment laws in Kentucky. It is our sincere hope that this plan is a building block toward further improvements in a system that's long been under-funded and fractured.

Mental health advocates and lawmakers gathered in Louisville on Monday to celebrate a new Kentucky law they say will give courts more tools to help people living with mental illness.

Kentucky Medicaid members living with a serious mental illness (SMI), such as depression or schizophrenia, may qualify for new free services. These may include:
• Help finding housing.
• Help getting a job or going back to school.
• Help with medications, daily routines, and getting to appointments.
This is all part of the new 1915(i) RISE Initiative. If you think you may qualify, please visit

A federal law passed in July 2025 is changing the rules about who can get Medicaid and what some members must do to keep it. You may be affected if you are ages 19 to 64, qualify for Medicaid based only on income, and are not exempt.

Open meeting alert: The newly formed Professional Peer Support Workgroup is hosting a two-day series of meetings to discuss new developments pertaining to HB470 and how to flesh out the Workgroup to best serve the needs of Kentuckians. At the end of the Tuesday meeting, there will be a comment period for any questions, comments, or concerns. If you or your organization works in peer support, you don't want to miss this meeting!
