French Calvinism in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries by Dr. Michael A.G. Azad Haykin is available now!

For too long, the Huguenot story has lingered at the margins of Reformation history. While Protestant thought took deep root in Germany, the Netherlands, and Britain, the Reformed faith that once flourished in France was met with mounting hostility and, after 1685, brutal suppression. The result is a rich theological and pastoral tradition whose leading voices remain largely unknown to modern readers. This volume recovers that tradition by telling the story of French Calvinism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries through the lives of fifteen remarkable figures. Drawing readers into the turbulent world of pre-Revolution France-a landscape shaped by wars, synods, edicts, assassinations, and exile—it traces the full are of the Huguenot movement. Part biography, part theology, part sweeping narrative history, this volume opens a window onto a world hitherto largely unknown.

There’s something special about the first day.

Today, we welcomed our newest students to Southern for Orientation. They worshiped together, shared a meal with faculty, met members of the Southern community, and began getting acquainted with the place they’ll call home for the years ahead.

For these students, a new chapter of theological study and preparation for ministry has begun.

A new semester is just around the corner, and our faculty are ready.

Their Faculty Workshop was a chance to learn together, encourage one another, and prepare for another year of training students for faithful ministry.

We’re so thankful for the faculty who give themselves to teaching, mentoring, and serving the next generation of pastors, missionaries, and church leaders.

Seminary training is about more than what happens in the classroom. Mentoring Groups give you the opportunity to build a relationship with a faculty member who can encourage you, pray with you, and invest in your growth throughout your time at Southern.

This fall, new and current on-campus master’s students can join a Mentoring Group with a professor from the School of Theology or the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism, and Ministry. Groups will meet three times this semester and continue into Spring 2027.

Sign up by August 19 to join a group this fall.

The Book of Psalms: A Transparent Translation for Daily Meditation by Dr. James M. Hamilton Jr. is available now!

The psalms are the inspired prayers and praises of God's people. When we study and pray them, they change us--we are shaped by Scripture to think about God the way the psalmists did, and their words become the overflow of our hearts. But much of what makes the psalms so powerful is embedded in the structure and artistry of the original Hebrew--features that most English translations, by rendering the psalms according to the conventions of English poetry, inevitably obscure. This translation takes a different approach. Intentionally literal and transparent to the underlying Hebrew, James M. Hamilton Jr.'s rendering lets the structure of the original show through--allowing readers to encounter the psalms' language and form in ways most English translations don't permit.
