On August 17, 2026, the Kentucky Department for Public Health confirmed there's an ongoing measles outbreak in Kentucky. Nineteen cases have been reported so far in Christian, Jessamine, Own, Todd, Trigg and Washington counties.

“Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and can cause serious health problems, especially in young children,” said Dr. Kris Bryant, associate medical director for the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) and pediatric infectious disease specialist with Norton Children’s. “It can make a child severely ill and lead to life-threatening complications like seizures, swelling of the brain, pneumonia, and make you more likely to get sick with other infections.”

If your child needs the MMR vaccine LMPHW can help. They provide vaccines to people without insurance or a medical home, as well as for children whose insurance or doctor do not cover vaccines. They also accept most insurance plans. There is a $12 administration fee for each vaccine, but no one will be turned away if they are unable to pay. Call 502-574-5380 to schedule an appointment at the immunization’s clinic.
