Thank you, Louisville.
It is with a grateful heart that I announce that we have dissolved Acting Against Cancer. Since 1999, Kids Acting Against Cancer has been an active part of the Louisville community. Acting Against Cancer’s mission has been to change the lives of children touched by cancer through the arts. I believe that AAC has done this and more. I hope that everyone who has worked with AAC and enjoyed our shows will continue to carry this mission in their hearts always.
Over the years, AAC supported countless individuals and organizations including: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Gilda’s Club, Susan G Komen, Ellie Cats Crew, Jarrett’s Joy Cart, Kosair Children’s Hospital and more. Our children’s program provided free drama instruction to any child touched by cancer.
In the last 22 years, AAC produced 34 main stage productions and 15 shows through our children program. We’ve laughed together, cried together and created art. AAC had several different homes in the community from my basement to the Starks Building to Mellwood Art Center to Distillery Commons to our final home in the ArtSpace building. We’ve performed everywhere from my basement coffee table to school theatres to the Kentucky Centers Bomhard and MeX theatres to the Clifton Center to the Tim Faulkner Gallery to the Alley Theatre to The Henry Clay to PLAY Louisville to Copper and Kings to Art Sanctuary to our very own theatre inside ArtSpace.
As AAC closes our doors, we have been able to donate items to wonderful organizations throughout the community - including but not limited to: Gilda's Club Kentuckiana, Feed Louisville, Rolling Hills Academy, Bellarmine University, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Company OutCast, Mind's Eye Theatre Company, St. Francis School.
Louisville has been an incredible home to Kids Acting Against Cancer. I want to thank everyone for your support of our mission. Thank you to our leaders, artists, actors, crews, volunteers, students, donors, audiences, followers, and the greater community.
My sister and I started this organization to help children who were struggling like our mother. I know that we made a difference, and I am proud of the good that we did over the last 22 years.
While I wish we could continue forever, it is time for our final bow.
With immense gratitude and love,
Whitten Montgomery
