Are you bored? Too much time with nothing today? Want to volunteer for a great cause, and you live in the Louisville area, then read on.
For the past six years, I have directed a non-profit organization that provides virtual continuing education and professional development for spiritual caregivers (mostly chaplains). The organization was named for Dr. Wayne E. Oates who was a pioneer in the field of psychology of religion, pastoral care and counseling. After developing an internationally recognized department at the Southern Baptist Seminary, he taught for years at the School of Psychiatry at the U of L Medical School. We have continued in his legacy of providing best practice understanding and skills in the integration of spirituality, medicine, psycholgy, ethics, and social work.
The time has come for us to close the non-profit and move a part of Dr. Oates’ collection and some of the work the Institute to the U of L Health Sciences Korhauser Library.
A hybrid celebration is planned for late September to honor the work of the Institute and introduce the future work of the library in conjunction with all the health science’s schools. An endowment is hoped to underwrite the future work. If you would like to attend the event and or make a contribution to the fund, please contact me for details.
Now for the opportunity… We have approximately 1,000 books from Dr. Oates’ personal library that need to be catalogued by title, author, and date of publication on a spreadsheet. If you can help with this project please let me know.
