An increasing number of consumers want to buy food that’s better for the environment. And studies show they’re even willing to pay more for food that aligns with their values.
Tyson saw an opportunity to cash in on that demand. It created product lines labeled “climate-smart beef” and claimed it was on the path to net-zero emissions.
But analysis by FarmSTAND pulled back the curtain. It found evidence that Tyson wasn’t actually overhauling its practices to reduce emissions or address climate change. Instead, it was greenwashing to boost its profits.
And this is exactly why we need to keep calling out Big Meat’s greenwashing. The climate impacts of industrial agriculture aren’t well understood by the public, and Big Meat benefits when they stay that way.
To hold Tyson accountable, FarmSTAND, along with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Earthjustice, and Edelson PC, represented the Environmental Working Group in a lawsuit challenging Tyson’s misleading claims.
We can’t let corporations keep getting away with this. That’s why we’re working directly with farmers to take back control from corporate monopolies and get the truth out there.
