Emma Fila Foundation announces recipients of 2023 Scholarships

LOUISVILLE, Tenn.—The Emma Fila Foundation has awarded four scholarships of $1,000 each toward studies for the 2023-2024 academic year. The recipients of this year’s scholarships are Zoe Carter, Emma Cubberley, Emma Henegar, and Kimmy Mann.
Each year, the Emma Fila Foundation intends to award these scholarships to students who have overcome the loss of a loved one to continue on and pursue their education. Applicants must submit their grade point averages from all high schools and colleges attended, describe their educational pursuit, including degree they plan to pursuit and intuition they plan to attend, and an essay about the loved one they loss and how the scholarship will help with their grief.
This is the second year of the scholarship awards named in memory of Emma Renee Fila who died tragically in 2021.
Below are additional details on each of this year’s winners:
Zoe Carter
Zoe applied for the scholarship in memory of her grandmother, Brenda Carter, whom she lost two years ago. She plans to continue her education at Tennessee Technological University this fall to pursue her dream of being a teacher.
Emma Cubberley
A recent graduate of Lenoir City High School, Emma is planning to attend Appalachian State in the fall to pursue a degree in Digital Journalism and Recreation Management. Emma applied for the scholarship in memory of her father, Duane Cubberly, whom she lost last fall.
Emma Henegar
Emma applied for the scholarship in memory of her grandmother Deb, uncle Brandon, and her friend Emma Fila. Emma is a recent graduate of Clinton High School. She is planning to attend Roane State Community College to pursue nursing.
Kimmy Mann
A student at Tennessee Technological University, Kimmy applied for the scholarship in memory of his father, John Mann. Kimmy intends to become a large animal veterinarian.
