Louisville Community Garden

Louisville Community Garden We are currently in the planning stages but have already received support from several community residents and local businesses.

My hope is for the community garden to become a place to gather, to chat, to hang out, and of course to eat!

The response to my last post wasn’t what I expected. I am shocked and saddened that the community of Louisville prioritizes housing over community resources but it is what it is. Given the lack of support for a community garden at this time, I am shutting down this page and project. I wish Louisville the best down the road and I hope someday it becomes the community I always dreamed it could be.

This is where Fairhope elementary school once stood.

It’s currently an open field used by the neighborhood residents for flying kites and by the youth football for practice and games.

The school board has said they will put this land up for auction in October.

My sources tell me that developers are already planning on buying it which means more apartments or condos and decreasing home values for this allotment.

This would be an ideal place for the community garden as well as an exercise area, walking track, and of course a wide open green space with some benches and seating.

I hope by posting this, we can reach out to the school board about either giving the land to the city to use for community purposes, or we can find a willing investor to buy the land from the school and preserve one of the last large green spaces in Louisville.

It’s with a heavy heart that I must share the unfortunate news that Kountze Lutheran church has made the decision not to allow the community garden to move forward on their land. I will be updating the description for the page and will be instead looking for an alternative location. 😞

Just an update as to where we are. We’re basically waiting on the church now. They’ve tentatively approved the project but want to make some changes so now we’re just waiting to see what those might be. We’re still hoping to get this off the ground this growing season.

We have big news coming this week so stay tuned and share the page so we reach as many people as possible! If you haven’t already been added to the Louisville community garden volunteers group, make sure you request to join. We are going to be needing volunteers to man a donation table in the next few weeks.

Just saying... 😉🥰

Welcome to the Louisville Community Garden page! Everyone is welcome here and this is a family-friendly community so please refrain from using profanity in any posts or comments.

We have created a group called Louisville Community Garden Volunteers for anyone wanting to get involved in the building and maintaining of the garden.

At this time, the plans for the garden are on hold as we need to find a suitable location for the garden.

Feel free to contact either Christina Baad (330) 913-9873, Blake Brown at Blake's landscaping at (330) 412-2423 for more information, to make a financial contribution, to ask about sponsorship, or to get involved as a volunteer.

Preliminary design plans for phase 1. We are looking for donations for the cedar boards for the raised beds and sponsor businesses or families for each of the beds and for the fence. Contact Blake's Landscaping at (330)412-2423 for information on sponsoring. If you would like to be considered for a family bed this season, send a message to be added to the list of potential community growers! (If you can not afford to rent a garden bed, please give us your information privately and we can connect you with a sponsor family so that you still have the chance to have a garden in one of these spaces.) Our current estimated financial need is about $3,000 which is the cost of the cedar lumber.
