Yesterday, Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips was laid to rest.
We intentionally waited until after his visitation and funeral to share these words, allowing his family, friends, fellow Troopers and loved ones the space to grieve and honor him during those incredibly difficult days.
But grief does not end when the funeral procession does.
This loss has weighed heavily on our own hearts. Law enforcement has been and always will be, close to my family. My own uncle, is a retired Kentucky State Trooper, so I grew up understanding that behind every uniform is a person whose family watches them leave for work knowing there is always a possibility that the day may not end the way anyone expects.
Today, that understanding feels even heavier.
Trooper Phillips was more than the badge he wore. He was a husband. A father to three boys. A son. A brother. A friend. A colleague. He was someone's person.
And there are people waking up today trying to understand how life continues without him.
That is something every one of us can understand.
The Gridiron C.R.I.B. is a flag football league, but what we are building has never been only about football. C.R.I.B. stands for Community, Respect, Inclusion and Ball, and COMMUNITY means something to usβΌοΈ
Through our partnership with LMPD PAL, we have been blessed to have officers step beyond their everyday responsibilities and pour into the children in our league as coaches, mentors and role models. On Saturday nights, our families may see them wearing a coach's shirt and standing beside their son or daughter on a football field. But behind that coach is still someone who has chosen a profession that can ask an unimaginable amount of both them and the people who love them.
That became painfully real again this week.
So today, we simply ask our Gridiron family to remember Trooper Hayden Phillips, his wife Jordan, their three sons, his family, his friends and his Kentucky State Police family in your prayers.
And while you're praying for them, please say one for the officers within our own community and for the husbands, wives, children, parents and families who love them and wait for them to come home.
If you see one of our LMPD officers on the football fields, take a moment to thank them. Not because this post is about politics, opinions or disagreements. It isn't.
It's about people.
It's about remembering that behind every badge is a human being who is deeply loved by someone.
Trooper Hayden Phillips made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
His funeral may be over, but the people who loved him will carry this loss for a lifetime.
May we continue to surround them with prayer long after the processions, ceremonies and headlines have ended.
Rest peacefully, Trooper Phillips.
To his family, friends and fellow officers: our Gridiron C.R.I.B. community is praying for you. π
