WGCA -  Preventing Cervical Cancer in Haiti Advancing cancer care in Haiti - currently developing a cervical cancer prevention clinic in Gonaives, Haiti.

The WGCA is involved on many fronts to advance cancer care in Haiti. It mentors the development of a cervical cancer prevention clinic in Gros Morne, is developing a cervical cancer prevention prgram in Gonaives, acts as an advisor to developing a National Cancer Treatment Center, served on medical relief teams following the January 12, 2010 earthquake and supports a young Haitian girl in San Mar

c and a Haitian medical student, interested in becoming an obstetrician-gynecologist, in completing their studiies.

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Haitian women with an estimated 1,500 deaths annually. This is 50 times higher than the rate in the United States...." The Women's Global Cancer Alliance is working to establish a clinic in Gonaives, Haiti, with the goal of eradicating cervical cancer there with the "See and Treat" methodology. This article from the World Health Organization (WHO) mentions the use of acetic acid as a way to diagnose cervical cancer in low income countries. While WHO's article is focused on Africa, the use of acetic acid (main active ingredient in vinegar) is common to both organizations.
