Hearts for Kenya

Through harvesting and growing corn and sorghum they are able to feed 8,000 school children a porridge lunch daily. Hearts for Kenya started in 1995 and currently assists 20 schools with over 8,000 children to have a nutritious meal daily while at school, with the ground corn and sorghum. Two acres grow the corn and have a grinder on location where local farmers can come and get seed corn and also

grind their corn for free. They also supply the schools with seed corn, fertilizer and education to grow crops at school. In May 2019, Hearts or Kenya started a Days for Girls Enterprise to assist girls with education and reusable feminine hygiene kits. They now employee 6 seamstress and a nurse for teaching. Since October 2020 they have sewn, educated and delivered over 1,000 kits so girls can attend school while on their menstrual cycle. Hearts or Kenya's goals for 2020 and beyond include, irrigating and farming 8 acres near Lake Victoria to provide ongoing corn and sorghum to increase feeding to 30 schools and 1,200 children while they are at school. They are currently getting the fields ready and putting in an irrigation system. There are three phases of this project.
