A Harvard study shows that about 0.15% of U.S. homes are wheelchair accessible, while HUD indicates that 13% of U.S. households include someone with a mobility device. Our accessible housing report (see the Gathering Strength website) shows that in Louisville, 24% of households include someone with an accessibility need - physical or sensory (vision/hearing). What barriers to accessible housing would you like to see addressed?

I just spoke about the need for more accessible affordable housing and Gathering Strength's report on the accessible housing gap at the Ky Housing Corporation's Affordable Housing Conference. The accessible housing gap is a little-talked-about crisis within the housing shortage crisis. Jennifer Cahill from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency joined me to talk about some of the ways that Ohio is trying to close the gap by requiring more accessible units in developments they fund.

I was honored to conduct a breakout session at this vibrant, interesting, vital conference. The KHC team was was incredibly accommodating and gracious. I'm very thankful.
