Louisville Urban Forestry, part of Louisville Parks and Recreation, is responsible for the planting and maintenance of trees and landscaping in public parks and along public right-of-ways.

🌳Our LEFI Green Industry Training Program's fall session is nearing the halfway mark, and in just five weeks, trainees have already covered a lot of ground!
In the classroom, they've built a strong foundation in urban forestry through lessons on tree biology, species identification, plant health care, and job safety. Now, they're putting that knowledge into action with hands-on training in tree pruning, invasive plant management, and operating equipment like wood chippers and chainsaws.
🍂 Up next? Planting season! November brings the opportunity to learn one of the most important urban forestry skills of all: how to plant a tree.

🌳💚 TreeWeek was tree-mendous! Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate Louisville’s urban tree canopy. Together, we gave away 500 trees, enjoyed jazz beneath the trees, learned proper pruning techniques, and explored nature on guided walks. Keep showing your trees some love, and we'll see you in April for TreeFest!

🌳Looking for a tree for FREE? We are hosting our annual tree giveaway at Joe Creason Park! There are 500 trees that need a good home in Jefferson County. We are giving out Bur oak, Cucumber magnolia, Black gum, Redbud, and Serviceberry. Make sure to bring your government ID. Each home is limited to three trees.

Downed trees in urban forests are impressive habitats and refuges for wildlife.
While doing tree clean up in George Rogers Clark Park, our foresters spotted a tiny Spring Peeper making itself right at home.
Dead or decaying trees in an urban ecosystem provide shelter, return nutrients to the soil, and help promote biodiversity.
