Foster homes truly make all the difference.

🐶Our Urban Forestry crew recently found a skinny, exhausted puppy on Southwestern Parkway. After surrendering him to Louisville Metro Animal Services, our team was out doing tree work when they spotted the same pup, this time healthy and happy with his new foster family.

💚One of our foresters said it best: “Seeing him healthy and happy made it all worth it.”

LMAS is always looking for foster homes to help pets just like him. Learn more: https://louisvilleky.gov/government/animal-services/services/foster-care

🌱 Learning by doing! 🌱
Last week, participants in Urban Forestry’s grant-funded Green Industry Training Program got hands-on experience with invasive plant management. Teaming up with Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy volunteer Park Stewards, the crew tackled invasive bush honeysuckle in Cherokee Park near the Cochran Hill Dog Park.
Using hand tools and targeted herbicide applications, a large area was cleared—creating space for native plants to thrive and supporting a healthier park ecosystem. 🌿
🌸 Why Honeysuckle Matters
Asian bush honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) forms dense thickets that crowd out native plants, offer less nutritious fruit for wildlife, and can even create habitat for ticks.
👀 Spring Tip
Bush honeysuckle is one of the first plants to leaf out in spring, making it easy to spot. Small plants can be pulled by the roots; larger ones should be cut low and treated to prevent resprouting.

Spring is here and things are blooming!
☀️As the days are getting warmer, it's the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air that is one of the benefits of trees.
🌸From buds to blossoms, enjoy the new greenery and spring colors.
🌱This season is all about growth, and trees are waking up from winter to grow with you.
🌳Trees keep our neighborhoods cooler, cleaner, and more beautiful. Have a great spring!
