Downed trees in urban forests are impressive habitats and refuges for wildlife.
While doing tree clean up in George Rogers Clark Park, our foresters spotted a tiny Spring Peeper making itself right at home.
Dead or decaying trees in an urban ecosystem provide shelter, return nutrients to the soil, and help promote biodiversity.

Watering trees in the rain might look a little odd, but we promise there’s a good reason!

Our horticulture team is out giving extra water to newly planted trees because they actually struggle to soak up rainfall on their own. Trees grown in nurseries lose a large portion of their root system when they’re moved and replanted. Since roots are how a tree absorbs water, a smaller root system means these young trees need more help getting established.

So yes, sometimes that means watering even when it’s raining!

Another big storm hit Louisville this week and our crews have been very hard at work!
Many of our parks and several parkways experienced damages.
Our crews are dedicated to swiftly responding to storm damage in our parks to keep the city safe.

Foster homes truly make all the difference.

🐶Our Urban Forestry crew recently found a skinny, exhausted puppy on Southwestern Parkway. After surrendering him to Louisville Metro Animal Services, our team was out doing tree work when they spotted the same pup, this time healthy and happy with his new foster family.

💚One of our foresters said it best: “Seeing him healthy and happy made it all worth it.”
