Good food starts with farmers.

We're thankful to the Office of Planning and Food in Neighborhoods for putting together this farmers' market map and helping make it easier for Louisville residents to support local growers.

Feed Louisville is committed to building a stronger, more connected food system, one where food moves through our community instead of going to waste, where farmers are supported for their essential work, and where fresh, healthy food remains accessible to everyone.

Our vision is a closed-loop food system that values every part of the food chain, from the people who grow our food to the neighbors who rely on it. Farmers are true heroes, and we are proud to work alongside partners who help strengthen local agriculture while expanding food access across Louisville.

We are grateful to Lift a Life Foundation for their generous donation of $40,000 in support of the work taking place each day at Feed Louisville.

For years, Lift a Life has helped strengthen the Louisville community through philanthropy focused on compassion, stability, and opportunity for children and families across the region. Partnerships like these help expand our food recovery efforts, meal production, and food resource redistribution throughout our city.

“Better ingredients, better meals” took on a whole new meaning as volunteers from Papa Johns Pizza joined us in the kitchen at Feed Louisville to help prepare and pack meals for the community.

From food recovery to meal distribution, this work depends on people willing to step in, work together, and invest their time in something larger than themselves. We are grateful to the Papa Johns team for bringing their energy, solidarity, and commitment to service into our kitchen.

When community partners show up in this way, good ingredients become something even greater: shared purpose and meaningful impact across Louisville.

A heartfelt thank you to the Drepung Gomang Center for Engaging Compassion community for spending time with us this week in service to our work and in honor of their holy holiday Saka Dawa.

Known for sharing messages of peace, compassion, and cultural understanding around the world, the group from DGCEC brought those values into our kitchen through their volunteer work and a generous $1,000 donation to support our mission of rescuing good food and feeding people across Louisville.

Compassion is solidarity in action, and no one emulates that the way our DGCEC friends do. This is their third year celebrating Saka Dawa in our kitchen.

Food safety is a priority with everything we do at Feed Louisville.

On World Food Safety Day, we are committed to the safe food handling: temperature control, sanitation, and storage practices that ensure recovered food remains safe and nutritious from collection to distribution.

Reducing food waste and advancing hunger relief requires more than good intentions. It requires a commitment to the highest standards at every step of the process.

There is no food without farmers. And there can be no food security without farm security.

If we were each tuned in to just how closely tied the work of farmers is to our own individual survival, we would be overwhelmed with gratitude. And we might be more invested in how fragile the system is that supports their work growing for our survival.

The drive to grow food so others can live is nothing short of a spiritual calling. No one is drawn to the profession for wealth or fame. It is a heroic profession, selfless in many ways, but also deeply meaningful to those who farm.

We have been so fortunate since day one to have many local farmers donating their surplus food to us. LeTicia Marshall of BearFruit & Grow, LLC is one of our farmer friends who has been helping us feed this community all along.

She and her family grow on 4.23 acres in South Louisville, growing okra, tomatoes, peppers, collards, kale, fresh herbs, edible flowers, and more - all naturally grown from non-GMO seeds. As one of the few black female-owned farms in Kentucky, LeTicia is a leader in the agriculture community, working to help aggregate for other small growers and empower through her knowledge and passion.

She offers tours and sells baked goods and produce on-farm - so visit her website and plan a visit!

Join us June 11 for the Food & Science Pop Up Farmers Market & Reception, an evening centered on community, public health, and the future of food systems in Louisville.

The expert panel at 6 p.m. will bring together leaders working across food access, education, healthcare, and neighborhood advocacy, including Cassia Herron of Herron Planning & Strategy Services, Vincent James of Dare to Care, awardee and community advocate Taylor Ryan of Change Today, Change Tomorrow, moderator Wayne Tuckson of KET, and Kim Williams from the University of Louisville Department of Medicine.

Together, these voices represent a broad conversation around food equity, public health, and the importance of community solidarity in building stronger systems for Louisville.

Feed Louisville will also be on site with a community table during the event, while our Zest team will be providing food for attendees throughout the evening.

It was an honor to have Mrs. Lonnie Ali in our kitchen yesterday, along with her team from the Ali Center, to celebrate their Day of Compassion event in honor of the humanitarian legacy of Muhammad Ali.

As she and her team chopped zucchini and packaged meals along with volunteers from Vericast, she told us, "Muhammad would have loved what you are doing. He believed everyone deserves food. And housing. And healthcare!"

The Day of Compassion was a citywide volunteerism effort with the Ali Center and Metro United Way. We were grateful to be on their list of nonprofit organizations to support on this day of honoring Ali's legacy through service.

The groups packaged hundreds of meals together, helping us ensure good food continues moving through our community and reaching neighbors experiencing hunger. Every meal prepared was an act of compassion in action and a reminder that service is one of the most powerful ways we can show up for one another.

Pride Month is a celebration of a community where everyone has the opportunity to live authentically and belong fully. It is both a recognition of the progress that has been made and a reminder of the work that continues.

This month, we celebrate the individuals, advocates, organizations, and community partners who continue working to ensure that every person is welcome and free. We believe in a community where everyone has a place at the table and the freedom to be themselves and love who they love!

Happy Pride Month!
