Helen Keller's desk is being prepped for installation!

This desk, which is part of the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) Helen Keller Archive, sat Helen's home office in Arcan Ridge, Connecticut. Her desk set up will be recreated based on historical photographs, and a life-size tactile replica of Helen herself will be seated behind the desk.

A little behind-the-scenes look at the installation of our giant abacus!

This larger-than-life version of a math tool used by students of all ages who are blind or low vision sits in our lobby, and everyone is welcome to explore it through touch. The beads work just like a normally sized abacus!

Meet Marcus Engel, a Change Maker who teaches compassionate communication to healthcare professionals. Marcus lost his sight in an accident during his first year of college, and has made it his mission to help people who are suffering. He's a graduate of Columbia University's Narrative Medicine Masters program, an adjunct faculty member at the University of Notre Dame, and a published author.
