We're hiring!

TRLC seeks two Land Stewardship interns for summer 2026. Interns will gain extensive hands-on experience working with our nationally accredited land trust. TRLC’s mission is to protect natural resources by working in partnership with private landowners, governmental partners, and supporters to acquire conservation easements and outright ownership of land. Since 2000, we've protected 24,675 acres including streams, wetlands, wildlife habitat, natural areas, recreational open space, and working farms and forest located in an eight-county region of North Carolina between the Raleigh-Durham suburbs and the Virginia state line.

Successful interns will receive preferential consideration for 2 full-time positions to be hired this fall!

Tar River Land Conservancy (TRLC) staff recently hosted family and friends of Fred Battaglia for a tour of 22 acres of land donated by Mr. Battaglia to TRLC after his passing last October. The land gift to TRLC was the second made by Mr. Battaglia, who practiced law for many years and served as a judge in Durham. He previously donated a 59-acre property to TRLC in 2022. Both tracts are located southwest of Oxford between US Highway 15 and Old NC Highway 75. “We were humbled to learn that Fred left his Granville County property to TRLC in his will,” stated Executive Director Derek Halberg. “He was a true friend and supporter of our organization. We knew how much this land meant to Fred. This gift will be a lasting testament to his love of the outdoors and his support for conservation.”

The hiking trails in Granville County will remain closed until next week. Currently, the conditions in the driveways are unsafe. Additional winter weather and frigid temperatures are expected this weekend. Once we receive the word from our volunteer trail monitors that the trails are safe to reopen, we will post a notice that they have been reopened. Stay safe and warm!

Granville County Hiking Trails Will Close at Noon Tomorrow! The trails will remain closed until volunteers and staff have an opportunity to check the trails for any fallen branches, trees or other damages from the ice storm.

Big thanks to the Xylem volunteers who helped us move a footbridge and upgrade a portion of bog bridge that had been experienced flooding at Robertson Creek Nature Preserve. We'll be continuing to update portions of the trail over the coming months. Reach out to [email protected] if you'd like to join the fun!
