Did you know there are 41 different species of wildcats in the world — and most of them are actually small wildcats, not the “big cats” people usually think about?
At Cedar Cove Feline Sanctuary and Education Center, we are proud to care for and educate the public about several incredible wildcat species, including Asian leopard cats, Geoffroy’s cats, African servals, Eurasian lynx, and our native North American bobcats.
Each of these cats has evolved for a unique role in its ecosystem. Asian leopard cats are agile nocturnal hunters native to forests across Asia. Geoffroy’s cats, native to South America, are among the smaller wildcat species but are highly adaptable and incredibly efficient predators. African servals are known for their long legs, oversized ears, and amazing jumping ability used to hunt prey hidden in tall grasslands. Eurasian lynx are powerful forest predators and the largest lynx species in the world. Bobcats are one of North America’s most adaptable wildcats and play an important role in balancing local ecosystems by helping control rodent and prey populations.
Wildcats play an essential role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by naturally controlling prey populations and helping keep nature in balance. Unfortunately, many species face increasing threats from habitat loss, human expansion, and illegal wildlife trade.
We invite our Friends of Cedar Cove to come visit, enjoy a guided educational tour, and meet these remarkable animals up close while learning why wild predator conservation matters. Every visit helps support our mission of education, conservation, and protecting the future of wild predators. 🐾
