Annually, the VGA hosts more than 1300 local tournaments across the country, culminating in a VGA National Championship.

🦃🇺🇸 SPECIAL EVENT: THE TURKEY TEE OFF AT GLENMORE 🇺🇸🦃

We're kicking off Veterans Day week in style! The Club at Glenmore in Keswick has invited VGA Virginia to its 2nd Annual Turkey Tee Off, benefiting the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

🏆 Glenmore should look familiar: it's where we hosted the 2026 VA State Championship! Come back and play this private-club gem again, a John LaFoy design with a slope of 147 from the tips.

This Sunday, October 18, VGA Virginia tees it up at three courses across the Commonwealth on the same day. That's 131 golfers from the mountains to the sea! ⛳

⛰️ Hanging Rock Golf Club | Salem

A Russell Breeden design, open since 1991
A hilly layout with fall color in the Southwest Virginia mountains 🍂
The par-3 9th plays downhill over a creek you can't see from the tee. Trust your yardage!

🏌️ Bull Run Golf Club | Haymarket

A Rick Jacobson design in the shadow of Bull Run Mountain
Wide fairways, big greens and some forced carries over water
The 553-yard 18th plays shorter than it looks and dares you to go for it in two

⚓ Eagle Haven Golf Course | JEB Little Creek–Fort Story

A Navy course that's been open since 1954. It's a perfect home for a veterans' event!
Water is in play on 10 of 18 holes, and the coastal breeze is always a factor

Good morning Veteran Golfers Association North Region!

Welcome to the first installment of our new series, Playing from the Tips Tuesday!

Each Tuesday, we'll highlight important rules, guidelines, and key information from the 2027 VGA Tour Players Manual to help our players stay informed, prepared, and ready for competition.

Choose Your Division and Branch:

Two decisions have a hard deadline this season, and it arrives faster than most members expect: BEFORE you complete your 4th event.

🎖 SENIOR DIVISION: Members 50 and older choose between the Senior Division and their default division. Once you finish your 4th event, the choice locks until next September 1.

🇺🇸 ARMED FORCES CUP BRANCH: Served in more than one branch? Choose the branch you will represent before your 4th event. Contact the VGA National Office and provide proof of service. No changes after that.

⚠️ One more: veterans may not select the Family Division in their member profile. Doing so can lead to termination of membership.

🏌️ 🏌️ ROAD TO STATE | Week 3 🇺🇸

Three more members completed their fourth event this week, and each is now eligible for a chance to register for the 2027 Virginia State Championship on 21 June 2027!

#3 Jae Park, U.S. Army. Jae served as an 11B Infantryman, joined VGA in 2021, and in 2023 volunteered to serve as one of our Assistant State Directors. He completed his fourth event on 5 October at Chantilly National Golf and Country Club.

"VGA isn't just a golf organization to me. It's a Family."

#4 MSgt George Latham, U.S. Marine Corps. After 22 years in the Corps, George completed his fourth event at Chantilly National too. You may remember him from our Golfer of the Week spotlight. His advice for all of us:

"Have fun." Semper Fi, Master Sergeant!

#5 Carl Bishop, U.S. Army. Carl served 5 years in the Army and today works as a Distribution Line Coordinator with American Electric Power. He took the road trip literally and completed his fourth event on 10 October at Cattails at Meadowview in Kingsport, Tennessee.

"I encourage every veteran to join VGA for camaraderie and new friends you make every event. VGA is so much more than a score, a medal or even playing golf, it's a brotherhood that many of us veterans need to have in our life."

That's 5 of our fall goal of 50, and 156 Virginia golfers are now on the road. That's more than triple where we started! The Army has taken the lead in the branch standings. Who will catch them?

From State (21 June), the road runs to the North Region Championship at Crystal Springs, New Jersey (1–3 August), and on to the 2027 VGA National Championship at Chambers Bay, Washington, September 26–29, broadcast on FOX Sports. 📺

⛳ VGA Virginia – Raspberry Falls Tournament Recap! 🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who came out today and played at Raspberry Falls Golf Course!

We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the course was in great condition!

Unfortunately, the public groups ahead of us were playing extremely slow, which caused some major delays. Even our first group didn’t finish until 5 hours later!

A special shoutout to our final two groups for coming together and finishing the 18th hole as one group! With daylight quickly disappearing, that was a smart move! You guys were awesome, and I appreciate everyone making the best of the situation! 👏

Despite the slow pace, I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather, great golf, and, most importantly, the camaraderie with fellow veterans and families!

🇺🇸⛳ PLAYER OF THE WEEK | Why do YOU VGA? ⛳🇺🇸

This week we put the spotlight on CSM Rick Webb, U.S. Army.

Rick is still wearing the uniform. He serves as the Command Sergeant Major of the Richmond Army Recruiting Battalion, and he's spent his career in recruiting and talent acquisition (79R, now 42T), bringing the next generation into the Army. When he takes off the uniform on July 1, 2027, he'll have served just over 40 years.

Rick joined the VGA in May of this year, and he's made quite a first season: about 15 events, SEVEN 1st-place finishes, and multiple 2nd-place finishes. 🏆

Why does Rick VGA? In his words:
"The VGA brings like-minded people together. Military service, regardless of branch, is a brotherhood and sisterhood. Service is a sacrifice, and only those that have the intestinal fortitude to say 'I will' will truly understand. The VGA affords me the opportunity to be with my brothers and sisters in arms, past and present, doing something that all of us are passionate about: golf."

Rick's season highlights:
⛳ Seven 1st-place finishes in his first VGA season
⛳ Low round of the year at Mattaponi Springs: a 78, with 4 birdies on the front nine
⛳ Playing Golden Horseshoe in Williamsburg, one of his favorites of the 2026 season

Other courses he loved: Rock Harbor (Wi******er), Potomac Shores (Dumfries), Piedmont Club (Haymarket), Lake Chesdin (Chesterfield), and Piedmont (Ruther Glen).

Rick lives in Glen Allen and calls Pendleton and Mattaponi Springs his home courses. He's a proud single dad to his son Jacob, a sophomore at WVU who plays D1 hockey and is an avid golfer. Jacob will join the VGA as a family member in 2027. His daughter Ella is a high school sophomore and an honors student who is crushing it in school.

His advice for every new member: "Enjoy the camaraderie. Work on your short game. It's the only way to win." 😉

Rick, thank you for four decades of service and for everything you've brought to this family in your first season!

⛳ PLAYING FROM THE "TIPS" TUESDAY

Every Tuesday, we break down one piece of the 2027 VGA Tour Players Manual. We start where every tournament starts: getting there ready to play.

🖥 Before event day, check the tournament home page. It lists two times that matter: Registration Open and Registration Closes.

✅ Registration Closes is your deadline. Every golfer checks in at the registration table before that time. No exceptions. Miss it without a call and you risk a DQ or losing your spot to a player on the waitlist.

⏱ Once you are registered, get to your cart, stow your gear, and be ready to roll. Starters often push groups out early, so plan on it. The manual sets the minimum: sh***un starts at your cart 20 minutes out for the course brief. Tee times, on the first tee 10 minutes before your time.

📞 Running late? Call the Tournament Director BEFORE registration closes. You can join your group until it finishes hole 3. You take net double bogey on each hole you missed.

🚫 Your group finished hole 3 and you are not there? That is a DQ. No refund, no credit.

Can't make it at all? Notify your director at least 24 hours before the first tee time. A No Show earns no score, no points, no placement, and no refund. Three in one season brings a three-month suspension.

The policy applies whatever the cause of the delay. Plan for traffic, plan for the drive, and own your arrival.

Our Tournament Directors are volunteers. Checking in on time is how we take care of them.
