From a portable tower set up early this year to a permanent repeater now humming along in the hills, today is a big win for Camp Shenandoah.
This weekend we’ve been stringing wire, climbing towers, turning wrenches, and chasing signal all around Little North Mountain, and it all paid off. What started as an idea to improve safety for camp is now a working radio system that’s keeping Scouters and Staff connected. While we were at it, we added a .io repeater too! We kept things moving, hit our milestones, and even stayed under budget. That doesn’t happen without a whole lot of good people showing up and getting it done.
Phase 2 is already rolling into May as we keep building out coverage around camp. And just over the ridge, we’re setting the stage for Phase 3 in October bringing Amateur Radio to life and giving Scouts a chance to get hands-on with radios, learn the ropes, and hear their voices carry a whole lot farther than they expect with the Radio Scouting program.
From working behind the scenes to boots on the ground, a huge credit goes to the Scouts, Scouters, and Staff of .scouting and the Louisa Radio Scouting Team for making this a success. From nothing to fully functioning repeater system in one weekend is amazing. This one was built the old-fashioned way with teamwork and collaboration.
One milestone down. Plenty more trail ahead. Stay tuned because there is more to come!
